Re: F2A-3 Preview

Is there any chance of getting a close up view of the new frameless sliding canopy?

The propeller is not metal.

To quote, "framing on it being deleted and the individual plexiglas sections butted together and sealed".

We have studied some sources and find that the seams between each glass is very delicate and hence we will print white lines on th canopy to represent this. Just like the cover of the in action book.

That is what I was hoping to hear about the canopy. Sounds like this is going to be another winner.

This will be my 5th Buffalo too. Everybody pull out your copies of Walter Lord's INCREDIBLE VICTORY, chronicallying the epic Battle of Midway. Mr. Lord's 1967 well-researched work really puts you on that atoll and gets you familiar with the Marines who defended Midway. I am on my 100th read and am still learning new things.

According to a later work, there are some popular misconceptions in Mr Lord's book, ie the torpedo planes brought the Zeroes down low so the dive bombers had a clear shot, but it IS a great book, isn't it. Great read, I love the way he gets so personal, describing what various people were doing/thinking at the time.

Actually, I think that Walter Lord's Incredible Victory stands the test of time pretty well. It was groundbreaking in its research when published in 1967, and is still a very enjoyable read. Yes, there are some points in his book that have been questioned. For instance, that the carriers were about to launch their strikes when the US divebombers struck and their decks were cluttered with fueled planes, loaded with bombs and torpedoes-- not true as it turns out; they were below decks. The best recent books on Midway, in my opinion, are Shattered Sword by Parshall and Tully. I highly recommend this book for giving the best analysis and overview of the battle from the Japanese perspective. It corrects many of the long-held misconceptions about the battle. In my view, the best book on the American side of the battle is Glorious Page in our History, by Cressman, et al. This book is really a very complete account of the American activities on Midway and all the US air operations. It is also filled with some great photos that I have not seen anywhere else. The trouble is that it is out of print and hard to find. Still I recommend searching it out if you are interested in learning more on the Midway battle. It really needs to be reprinted. And, if you want an excellent hard-to-put-down read of the battle, it is hard to go wrong with Lord's Incredible Victory.

Unhappy Re: F2A-3 Preview

I'm hating myself for being a traitor to 1/72 scale. I just ordered the Midway Buffalo. This will be my third. Darn, I can't resist. The IXO Buffalo just isn't good enough to stand on it's own in my 1/72 collection, against the great quality of some of the other models I have.

The HM Buffalos do look good. Most of my collection is 1/72nd scale. but have to admit I like 1/48th scale for some of the smaller fighters. Hope HM follows up with the I-16 one of these days (Another neat looking, but small fighter).

I wonder if they might follow this one up with one in Australian markings.

Hi,

Australian markings will follow naturally.

Attached a photo showing the pilot and the canopy frame.
