Re: Pics of second release Kate are up..

What ever color chosen, it will still be THE BEST Kate in 1/72 scale. And not just because it will be the only Kate, but because of the care taken in its design and manufacture. I'm anxiously awaiting both releases.

I have to agree. The folks at HM have been very conscientious with regards to detail and accuracy on the models they put out. I am looking forward to actually getting to see the Kates when they are released.

Re: Pics of second release Kate are up..

Chris,

I trust that your opinion can be the right one. But being probably the largest client for this item (Japan), you can imagine the difficulty that we need to face if we make something contrary to their opinion.

Can you send me an email to my personal address so I can consult you more in the future?

Thank you.
William

Chris (Lanslide),
It looks like William would like you to email him so that he can consult with you and your dad (Jim Lansdale) in the future. I surely hope you will email him to open a line of communication concerning future Japanese releases from Hobby Master. We would all stand to benefit from having William and Hobby Master consulting with you and your father on future Japanese releases.

Thanks for the vote of confidence kb466. We will offer our services to William as he requested. My father taught me everything I know about the subject and I know only a tiny fraction compared to him so he is really the one to consult.

Great news, and once again well done HM.

Re: Pics of second release Kate are up..

Thanks for again trying William. It's a shame that you are forced to paint a model the way artists decide to paint their aircraft models and profiles (apparently by using a lot of "artistic license") rather than using actual evidence and years of research conducted by well known historians. Please don't base your decisions on how a famous modeler or aircraft profile artist paints a plane. Believe me, you have access to a source of information here that is truly rare. But that's just my opinion. I would be very surprised to see the evidence that more serious Japanese collectors believe that the model should be IJN Gray rather than pale olive gray. I wonder how the market research is being conducted. Many serious Japanese historians use my father as a research source too. I hope they won't be disappointed by the incorrect IJN Gray choice. Does the "Japan side" have anything to support their claims other than artist's renderings? Is your source well known?

Chris,

Our Japan side wrote to me that they are very serious on the HA2002 and have sought much advice from many sources. I cannot read Japanese and hence won't be able to comment.

If you could, please send me your personal e-mail so we can seek consultancy from you for future Kates.

William

I'm starting to think, when you see all those movies of people burning documents before retreating, they are burning photos of all the CORRECT colour schemes.

Re: Pics of second release Kate are up..

One of the reasons that there is so much controversy regarding Japanese WWII aircraft colors and markings is that the Japanese simply took far less photographs than the Germans, British, and Americans did to document the war effort. This challenge is why it is so interesting to study the subject and rewarding when you finally discover the truth based on artifacts and very rare color photography. Also, the Japanese used markings that were both interesting and colorful.
