New RCAF Starfighter: the inside story:

Hi folks here is the inside scoop on the new RCAF CF-104

Dave,

I see on the forum that the CF-Starfighter (Chrome) has been announced. I thought I would pass along some additional information on this project. As you know, we did the RCAF Harvard project with Hobby Master (inventory of both is getting low!) and it was successful so we started discussing some other Canadian projects with them. Unfortunately, we didn't feel comfortable buying the entire run as an exclusive for us so we decided on a compromise to get another Canadian project completed. We committed to a sizeable portion of the run and were given exclusive retail rights here in Canada. With less inventory available worldwide, it should sell out quickly. We have been working with Hobby Master for several months on the accuracy (yes we know what the maple leaf looks like!) and 702 will be reproduced accurately without the VICON reconnaissance pod and with red tip tanks (see attached picture). The pod was looked into but was not viable. As with the Harvard project, we should soon see a pre-production sample and will get it on display for you to drool over. The CF-104 is expected here in September/October.
If you wish, any information above can be posted.

Thanks.

Alan Mickeloff

I'm fond of Modeller's Choice - I got both of the exclusive Harvards from them and they were great. I'll definitely be picking up this CF-104 from them if they're going to be the exclusive distributor. Thanks for the info, smartd.

Cool Re: New RCAF Starfighter: the inside story:

I suggested this scheme to William last Summer and I am glad to see that it will be produced.

Hopefully no Sidewinders will be included in this release as they never flew on a Canadian CF-104.

Too bad the Camera Pod won't be included - but not a deal killer - I will definitely be purchasing one!

Re: New RCAF Starfighter: the inside story:

Smart,

The recce pod would be a nice touch to confirm this as one of our own photobirds. There is an outfit in Guelph, just up the road from Hamilton that
has an extensive catalog of resin mod kits for armour and aircraft as well as figures. I wonder if Modeller's Choice would be able to get them to do a resin pod for the
104 and sell it as an option. I'd take one and anyone else who ordered the bird would probably take one too!

Yes -- I am keen on these guys too. FAST and FAIR shipping to Toronto! I've bought a fair bit from them in the past, and considering this is an exclusive with them only, I'll be up for a couple -- for sure!

Sounds like a great idea!

I'd definitely add a aftermarket Vicon Pod!

The folks at Modeller's choice do keep an eye on our forum and I am sure they will investigate any possibilities. I'll make sure they are aware of this.

Exclamation Re: New RCAF Starfighter: the inside story:

This release is also being discussed over at 400scalehangar.com on this thread:

NEW RELEASE: HOBBY MASTER RCAF CF-104 No.6 Strike/Reconnaissance OTU Cold Lake 1962 - 400 Scale Hangar

There are still people wanting a Vicon Camera Pod even if they have to build one from scratch!

Cool Re: New RCAF Starfighter: the inside story:

Here are some pics of a Hasegawa kit converted to a CF-104 made by Dave Asket with a Vicon Pod made from scratch.

I think it really adds something to the model!
