Re: Japanese WWII planes

The Aichi Seiran is one neat plane. One of submarineborne airplane ?

Yes, the Seiran was the aircraft originally intended to be used in the Submarine aircraft carriers, but they were also used in usual seaplane roles..

Re: Japanese WWII planes

OK, guys. Let's suppose that the Kate sells well enough to encourage HM to create a short list of future possibilities. Being realistic---which rules out the Emily, Mavis, Betty, Sally, Nell, etc. plus most float planes, which five Japanese planes would you chose in rank order for HM's "short list": My selections are:

1) Val
2) Oscar II
3) Tony
4) Frank
5) Nick

Mine would be:
1.) Val
2.) Tojo
3.) Tony
4.) Frank
5.) George

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

Re: Japanese WWII planes

Shawn (and I do know you're serious), you crack me up!

I'm seriously thinking of a mini dio with a few of theses IJN birds. If I could just figure out how to get that shot up, beat up look going. I'd probably have to kit bash with a plastic model to get it just right. Oh well I'll have a year to think about how to pull it off.

See ya all in about 15 months!!

I won't hold out for a Betty, so the order of single-engined would be:
Ki-44
Ki-84
Ki-100

The Ki-100 was a re-engined version of the Ki-61 inline Tony. The Japanese Army couldn't produce inline engines fast enough, so Kawasaki redesigned the basic airframe for a radial, all in record time (something like 100 days, though memory fades somewhat).

My multi-engined fighter would be the Ki-83, which would get my vote for the most beautiful twin-engined fighter of the war. It never flew operationally, and therefore doesn't qualify to be a diecast. However, this is from a writeup about the test plane: "During successive test flight, often interrupted by Allied bombing raids and fighter sweeps, the aircraft demonstrated exceptional manoeuvrability for its size, and performance was truly spectacular...a maximum speed of...426 mph...being demonstrated...perfomance compared favourably with the...Tigercat." What a matchup that would have been!
