Re: How about a P6E Hawk ??

Interesting story on the Indian head insignia for the 94th. The 94th squadron in WW I adopted the "Hat in the Ring" insignia in WW I. In 1922, the squadron gave up that insignia as it had become too well known, having been used on Rickenbacker cars and the Schwinn bicycle company. So, they adopted the above insignia which had been used, of course, by the Lafayette Escadrille in WW I.

Then, in April 1942, Eddie Rickenbacker visited the 1st Pursuit Group, including the 94th, and that visit helped initiate a drive to bring back the old Hat in the Ring" insignia. This was approved later in 1942.

Now that is a neat bit of history. One of the things I like about this forum, folks passing on interesting information.

Re: How about a P6E Hawk ??

It be cool if a 1:48 diecast of one of the P6E Hawks were made
Very colorful looking plane.
What you guys think of it ?

If this particular aircraft were made there would be a large potential market at the Air Force Museum gift shop.

Yes. This is the all time classic livery... one of the iconic paint jobs of a by-gone era. When I think of Curtiss Hawks, this is the one that comes to my mind's eye. Without question, of all liveries on any aircraft, this is one of my top five favorites.

If they're giving us an F3F then they'll have to make a P6E to keep it company...I'll take one!

Re: How about a P6E Hawk ??

I would buy about all the P6E variants they care to do,one of my all time favorite A/C. Its got gorgeous lines, and frankly,I'm not crazy about the "Bulldog" look of prewar radial powered A/C. Buffalo, and perhaps a few more like the I-16 are certainly O.K.,but gimme a pointy nose!!!! Mike

Something streamlined like the P-36,,, oops another radial powered aircraft, but it looks so good. P-40 B or C model,,,, that had a pointy snoot.

Re: How about a P6E Hawk ??

Right on,Cruver ! Hoping that Frank @ Carousel does a prewar livery among his Summer '08 releases,or if C1 does crash & burn, perhaps HM could do their own P40 early variants? Of course,if HM wants to REALLY get cool and obscure, there is the Curtiss A8 Shrike, strange enough you'd have to include a pork chop on the spinner to get people to buy it???? Mike

The A-8 Shrike did have some real interesting paint schemes though.
