Re: F3F "Pussycat"

Shawn - the F3F was a USN bird! It was the F4F Wildcat's predecessor.

Have you ever seen any drawings of the XF4F-1? Not to big a difference with the F3F. It seems that the Wildcat was originally slated to be another biplane. When the Brewster Buffalo came out the XF4F-1(No prototype ever built) design was dropped in favor of the Brewster monoplane. Grumman turned around and put out the XF4F-2, now a mid wing monoplane (They actually got their prototype in the air before Brewster).

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

Re: F3F "Pussycat"

Hobby Master is doing some wonderful stuff in 1/48. Buffalo, Griffin Spitfire and now the F3F. I'm trying to stay with 1/72, but..................

Re: F3F "Pussycat"

Is there a link to more detail on this model - visited Hobby Master HK and Hobby Master Collector and couldn't find. This is one of my favorite planes, lots of history and directly lineage to the 4F4. I'll see if I can't find some good history links, awesome reading

I've heard that. And what a plane the Wildcat turned out to be.

Re: F3F "Pussycat"

HM should get a lot of mileage out of this one, with an added benefit. Their Buffalo sales should rise with this release--- both planes make for a nice presentation. It also points to possible future TBDs, Kingfishers and Vindicators, also of the 1939-42 era. They'd all look great together, carried prewar and wartime schemes, and are unexplored in 1/48 diecast.

Since Hobby Master has shown a willingness to do some pre war aircraft, I wonder if any thought has been given to making the P-26.

Re: F3F "Pussycat"

If anyone can, it's HM. They clearly have some economies of scale going right now, with a connection to the market (via this site and perhaps other channels). The P-26 would make an astounding addition, with the unique AAC colors and squadron markings.

Re: F3F "Pussycat"

Here is a better pic to see the rigging & wires.
This is a 1:48 scale model of one...Nice touch too.

Re: F3F "Pussycat"

Never thought I see anyone do this in diecast, primarily because it was only operated by the United States so you do not get the extra foreign livery possibilities. Makes me glad I bought all the 1/48 Buffalos so I have something to go with them. Gives me hope of seeing the Devastator eventually (but do that one in 1/72!).
