Good question, Lanslide. I looked up the word in my large two volume World Book dictionary: it isn't there!

Maybe he means "pedant" - a person who overemphasizes rules or minor details. Good word! I hope I'm not too much like that. Getting the color right seems important to me though.

Military colors are a hoot.I modeled beginning in the 50's and was fairly serious about accuracy prior to my military service as a U.S. Marine from 1970-1976. Being aware of the quest for accurate model finishes,I paid a lot of attention to good old USMC green as applied to our armored vehicles and trucks,etc. To find two cans of paint that were the same was quite rare. In my platoons of 5-7 tanks,seldom were two the same shade of green. The variance was amazing. Then when time and weather,neither extreme,mind you,took effect,NOTHING was the same color!!!! "If its close,looks O.K. to your taste,photo,memory,etc.then its good." Paint vendors to the military are a loose and lax bunch,IMHO.

Regardless of what the word means or whether it is spelled correctly the opinion is right on the money. Everyone mixed their own paint and weathering means that colors could be very different from plane to plane. Even in photographs the time of day and the exposure of the shot will cause the colors to change. If you ever want to get a bunch of ship modelers in a tizzy ask them what color the Arizona was when she was lost at Pearl Harbor.
