Re: F3F "Pussycat"

I guess I kinda know what you mean, Elmer. Corgi and some others drive me crazy with their practice of inscribing or painting their name on the bottom of their models. But - that certainly doesn't stop me from buying them. I wouldn't have a very big collection if I boycotted them for little issues like these. I would only be hurting myself!

Re: F3F "Pussycat"

I can see where Elmer is coming from, I feel the same way about companies (such as Dragon and formerly HM) not putting the swazis on the Luftwaffe aircraft. If Elmer wants to be picky about screwheads, that's cool with me because I'm going to be picky about swazis. I'm buying these for some sort of accuracy in their historical markings and feel I shouldn't have to buy decals to put on a model that's supposed to be complete. I would've never purchased HMs Bf110 G2 if it didn't have the swazis (I'm kind of upset that the horizontal part of tail fin doesn't line up 100% evenly with the wings though, but that's another issue). Screwheads or swazis, being picky is a good thing.

Elmer, keep being picky!!!! For those of us who are picky, we call it being discerning!!

Re: F3F "Pussycat"

If I were to display this one upside down, well ,,,, might have a problem then. Overall the exposed screw heads look to be fairly. As long as they are flush or even better, slightly recessed, I don't really have a problem with it. Model overall looks to be nicely done to scale. Areas such as canopy framework (Wish was better view of cockpit detail), landing gear, and rigging look great. Pretty much every piece,,,, wait a tick,,, every piece out there has some form of discrepancy or distractor to it. Personally I think the folks at HM did an excellent job on this model and look forward to its release.

Re: F3F "Pussycat"

I totally agree with Elmer opinions...I thought that Panther was an exception and that with each new release in 1/48 scale standards would be improved , I still have great hopes for F3F but screws need to be replaced and leading edge has to painted properly incorporating part of the strut mold...these are glaring omissions and need to be fixed-BOOST THE PRICE BY 20 percent ,delay the model for the needed time but do it right...please do not repeat the Panther episode.

Re: F3F "Pussycat"

Engineering a model is not as easy as some may think. When you are working to a fixed price point it limits the things you can do. I don't have any problem with the small exposed screw heads HM is using on the underside of the top wing.

Carousel 1, which seems to be the current gold standard, rivets the wings on for a $15 higher price. It also looks messy.

Grumman faired the joint on the real airplane, which you could do on the model with little putty.

If the screw heads bother you, of course don't buy it. I love this model and think its a bargain for the price.

Re: F3F "Pussycat"

I have no problem with anyone being upset with screwheads (though I feel badly for HM and William, seeing how hard they are trying to please), but I can live with'em. There certainly is give and take in a lot of things, and I know I am not so made of money that I can demand, and pay for, perfection.

I agree Cap'n Eddie...other than the few tiny screw heads, this model is darn near perfect!

Re: F3F "Pussycat"

Agree! leeG does provide and excellent example between the two. Carousel WWI fighters are fairly heaped with praise, but it would seem in this case, their solution is fairly similar to what HM did with the F3F. Of course the HM model is a little less expensive though. Another observation is that it looks like the HM rigging is more to scale than that on the Carousel model, looks like they may be using a smaller gauge wire for their rigging. (Might be wrong, but it does appear so.). Have to say, for the price, the HM F3F is a pretty fine looking model.
