Question Re: Pics: HM Phantom "Ritchie" HA1901

Just a question about the Sidewinders......aren't the missles in each pair supposed to be mounted level with one another? If you look at the frontal view of the model one missle is mounted higher than its partner. Looks like the rails are on slanted.

Re: Pics: HM Phantom "Ritchie" HA1901

Yes, there is no washing applied on this. For this F-4's panel lines (indeed all of our aircrafts), we apply the same standard (width and depth) as the A-6 and A-7.

Did somebody say A-6 and A-7 from HM?! Must be talking about CW or this is a typo.

Apparently, the same group that manufacture HM products also manufacture diecast models for CW, hence (I assume) the reference to the A-6 & A-7 ...

Well...I guess William's statement confirms it! The fact that HM and CW make some of the best diecast models available explains it too!

Well, if he is talking about the CW birds I think their panel lines are overdone, too, which the wash emphasizes even more on those models. I think the HM Phantom perhaps should have had a moderate wash applied to it, as the "Rhino" was a pretty dirty frontline bird. . (And the paint scheme would make the wash effect less "stark" than with the CW navy birds.) But let's face it -- I'm pulling at straws for stuff to complain about here, in the interests of a "balanced review"

They are mounted level, no worries there -- my Phantom experienced a bit of a crash while I was experimenting with the fit of the Witty F-14 stand -- it feel out of the stand and onto a hard desk and pieces flew all over the place. Thankfully, the only thing that broke (tough bird!), was one of the sidewiders came off the rail and I glued it back on with a bit of Elmers, apparently no so perfectly, which I think is what you noticed -- if so, good eye!

(Moral of the story: If you try a Witty stand with this model, keep it in a level flight orientation, and make sure the fit is tight as possible.)

Yeah, I like to play with fire I guess -- don't think I'd try it on a glass shelf, for sure!

However, the Phantom has now been sitting serenely in the Witty stand on my desk here for... about 16 hours and counting... Seriously, works fine if you don't put the model in a hard bank....

But if you don't have a need to go there for display issues, stick with the HM stand.

Re: Pics: HM Phantom "Ritchie" HA1901

Thanks for the clarification Pappy! Glad to know that the model is as tough as the actual plane. I can't wait to get one for the collection. I hope HM will do an IAF version in the future.
