Re: Pics: HM SBD-2 HA0201

A serious question:

Will The 1/32 HM SBD-2 Dauntless (HA0201 yellow-wing) be a sell-out or will it eventually be 'dumped' at bargain basement prices like the 1/35 GMP aircraft range?

(I have ordered one of these and was just wondering whether it will be a successful release so that HM may consider developing other 1/32 aircraft like the FW190 .)

Considering that HM is making the same mistakes as GMP did (no stand, high price, the model is too big even by the US standards), you'll be the judge.

I know that 1:32 guys will want to crucify my for this, but I don't think that HM should have ventured into that scale with its limited worldwide appeal due to size and pricing. I would have much rather preferred 1:144 line with an emphasis on
4-engined bombers from all eras.

Only time will tell, but according to HM they are selling very well... so let's hope not as I want to see more 1:32 models from them (IMHO there are enough companies doing 1:144 -- at least compared with 1:32 for the moment).

Re: Pics: HM SBD-2 HA0201

How has the first of the HM Dauntless models done so far? That could be a pretty good gauge as to how these larger more pricey models can be expected to move.

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

As a sidenote: I think the run was reported to by 900. The collector card says the run is 1,000. Considering that GMP's most recent runs were (500? 600? I forgot), and they are now being dumped at Go Motor Bids, 1,000 may be ambitious. But let's not forget that GMP is an odd scale.

I agree with you , Sergey, about HM going into the larger scale, although I see this as another testing of the waters rather than an ongoing effort. I would much rather see HM sniffing out the 1:100th scale arena, rather than 1:144, since if this proved profitable, they could do planes like the Betty, IL-4, DO-217, PE-2 and SM-79, in a size that many collectors might find palatable---once they got used to the idea.

Re: Pics: HM SBD-2 HA0201

I'm hoping that HM's 1/32 venture is an outstanding success for them. There is virtually no 'diecast' competition for them in this scale (at the moment) and they've started with an iconic US aircraft, the indomitable SBD Dauntless .

In the past it was reported that this was to be their 'flagship' or premium line, which indicates that they have positive future intentions. Also, unlike Corgi's 1/32 range, theirs if far more limited and there will be nowhere near as many in circulation as there are 1/32 Spitfires, Hurricanes, Mustangs and Bf109Gs.

If HM pace their releases appropriately and select popular liveries, I see no reason why we can't also have a high quality diecast 1/32 FW190A, 'Jolly Roger' F4UCorsair, Hawker Typhoon and P47 Thunderbolt in the future ...

GMP's biggest mistake was the scale it selected, 1:35. I don't see HM repeating GMP's mistakes at all. First, it selected the more standard scale (which is big, no way to get around that fact; is it too big for U.S. standards? I don't think so, plenty of 1:32 models out there in plastic) and second, it is building a stand which will be available shortly. No question the model is expensive... and this will probably be the the determining factor for how well the line does. Pappy is right... only time will tell. The first SBD is already sold out at the Mule.

I agree with ya' Cardo, I want this line to be a huge success for HM... would love to see the 190A, Corsair, and T-Bolt in diecast 1:32. The subjects HM selects to model at 1:32 will need to be carefully thought out. It could be a big risk to go for obscure subjects.

Re: Pics: HM SBD-2 HA0201

I think the scale (1/35) and price is what hurt GMP in the long run....I think HM will be careful what to make in their 1:32 line..
At least i hope they do....Because i would like to see a few more planes out in that scale from them.
I have a feeling what ever they make in their smaller scales would be the choice for their 1:32 line.

The original planning is 900 but there is an increment of order so we changed it to 1,000.

The selling is pretty good so far I think because yesterday I received an e-mail from a major dealer trying to place additional order for this item. The 1,000 items are completely sold out on our side.
