Re: Helldiver 1/72 scale in the works

We 1/48 guys are very envious right now, with the Kate, Helldiver and the Beaufighter coming on in 1/72. Ho hum, I'll go re-arrange my 4 Buffalos and reminisce of new release anticipation...

C'mon Ara, you guys got the Panther!

Re: Helldiver 1/72 scale in the works

The A-25 Shrike would be an interesting variant. Squadron issue on the Helldiver does have and neat looking paint scheme for the Army variant. Not sure, but I do not think that the A-25 ever saw combat and was mainly used in second line activities like trainers and target towing.

if I remember right, Wings Palette says that one was used in the Phillipines. FWIW

I couldn't find that one on the Wings Palette site. I know the A-24 Banshee was initially sent to the Philippines and ended up seeing some action against Japanese harbor and airbase facilities at Bali in Java (Also some bombing missions against naval targets in Java). Some interesting reading about it in Doomed At The Start and also the Bloody Shambles books. That is about the only information I have come across dealing with the use of the Army's version of these two dive bombers.

Re: Helldiver 1/72 scale in the works

Please keep it at 1/72. With prices going up, I can't afford anything bigger than 1/72 (and with the prices of 1/400 airliners also going up -- price of fuel? -- it's getting so I can't afford anything smaller!).

Yes Rush--- but I'm a WWII guy. The Panther looked great, and kudos for HM making it, but this Helldiver in 1/72 really kills me. I'd really like one (or more) in the Grand Old Scale (1/48). Blame it on Monogram models for planting the seed.

Re: Helldiver 1/72 scale in the works

Found a black and white photo of this one in Squadron in action publication for the Helldiver. Indicated it was part of continental air defence. Looks like they were stationed at several airfields in Florida and also served a brief stint in the Canal Zone. Nice looking paint scheme.

I found a black and white photo of this one. Even in black and white its paint scheme looks good.
