Re: Helldiver 1/72 scale in the works

Well, if they can make a Kate then they can make a Devastator for sure! And the colors won't be so darn controversial.

As I have repeatedly said I'll buy 1 of each Devastator and there are as many livery options as there are for the Buffalo, if not more!

Re: Helldiver 1/72 scale in the works

I have a placeholder on one of my Navy shelves for the SB2C. That's going to be a massive chunk of metal! The Navy had some BIG airplanes, almost makes P-47s look svelte.

leeG, you have a great set up, any chance we can see more pictures.

I have used the paper template method for years I'm to see I'm not the only one.

I would in for a shelf of Devastors. Couple of prewar versions and a few sporting their war paint schemes.

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

By great set up, I assume you mean my display cabinet. I have two similar Pulaski Furniture Company Curios. They have a sliding door with lock, mirror back, and the shelves are 10 inch by 28 inches. Great for keeping the dust out and the models in. It works well for 1/72 scale, but a B-25 is about the largest model you would want on a shelf. I'll only be able to fit 3 SB2Cs and 2 TBFs on one shelf. The Navy had big planes hanging on only one prop.

Now that is one impressive display! No framework to block the view either.

Question Re: Helldiver 1/72 scale in the works

What are the aircraft identification profioles on the bottom of the case? Are they cards? Or are they pages from a book?

They are a deck of cards based on the old aircraft spotter card decks the Navy Training Division used to issue in 1943. Seems to me I picked them up at the either National Air And Space Museum or the Patuxent River Naval Air Museum.

Jim, you are the one guy I knew would notice it. It has special significance as I obtained it from the estate of Charlie Mott, one of the original Flying Tiger pilots.
