Re: Helldiver 1/72 scale in the works

Photo etch does not have to be fragile. It depends on the thickness of the material, the kind of material, etc. Also, it might depend on how it mounts on the airplane. You could engineer into photo etched divebrakes strong tabs to mount onto the wing. Admittedly, the etched divebrakes would be more sturdy closed, but could be made non-fragile nonetheless. I personally think that photo etched dive brakes would look great on this Helldiver. It would provide for a really spectacular touch of detail.

I'm only going off what I've used in my AFV modelling. I hate the stuff !

Re: Helldiver 1/72 scale in the works

Please - No open cowl flaps, show closed flight config only. Dragon ruined several great P-47 releases with that butchered attempt at open cowl flaps. As for dive breaks, I can live without them and here's why:

1) The stand will display the plane in pretty much level flight so dive brakes would not be appropriate

2) On the ground, I do not think dive breaks were opened (except maybe for maintenance) - anybody got pix of dive breaks open on the ground? In any case, I don't think I would display them.

3) The dive breaks will either be too fragile or the hinge system for the brakes will be evident and potentially ruin the clean lines of the wings or produce large gaps.

Honestly, I'd be happy with a cockpit that can be closed up or opened to display the defensive armament.

Model prototype mold looks like it might allow for a lowered decking behind rear cockpit. That would be a neat bit of detailing for the rear gun position.

I have a placeholder on one of my Navy shelves for the SB2C. That's going to be a massive chunk of metal! The Navy had some BIG airplanes, almost makes P-47s look svelte.

You need to also wave a magic wand on that placeholder so your wish will come true.

With HobbyMaster it's almost that easy. They have discovered the secret to success in diecast.
  • Deliver what you promised, when promised. (I'll have four HM Bf-110s before we even see a pre-pro 110 from Corgi)
  • Listen to your customers. (Pilots packs and revised Bf-110 canopies)
  • Provide a high quality product at a fair price.
  • Take some chances (F2A, F3F, SB2C or Kate, anyone?)

leeG - that is too funny! I need to do that with the Helldiver too! I can't wait for it to be made...I prefer the Pacific theater of WWII to the European. We need a TBD Devastator too!

HM definitely has the proper formula for success when it comes to diecast. The fact that the listen to their customers and implement some of the suggestions is great.

We need a TBD Devastator too!

I agree that would be nice to see them make one.
