Re: Helldiver 1/72 scale in the works

I am definitely in for two USN birds (three tone and all dark blue). The Essex (3- tone) and the Bunker Hill (dark blue) would fit the bill for me.

HM is going to wipe out my bank account in the next year!

Raven I like your choices here are four three tone birds I would like to see.

My two favorite birds would be

- SB2C-1C White 8-B-16, VB-8, East Coast (Late 1943)
- SB2C-4 White 207, VB-83 USS Essex (4-1-1945)

Army OD would look cool. Wonder why the USAAF did all they could to keep dive bombers out of their inventory. They seemed to prefer level bombers and fighter bombers to dive bombers.

Don't forget they had the A-36 Apache version of the P-51A Mustang with dive brakes added that they used for dive bombing.

Yup, they did. As I understand it, it was sort of a back door way to start the flow of P-51s into their inventory.

Re: Helldiver 1/72 scale in the works

I heard they wire the brakes down on those early Mustangs. I'd love to see some of those made, but its GA's arena as far as Mustangs go.

See ya all in about 15 months!!

Re: Helldiver 1/72 scale in the works

Just a preview of the prototype we made.

Holes are too many and too small to make the dive brake perforated. Photo-etched parts?

Re: Helldiver 1/72 scale in the works

William - is that Helldiver prototype made from plastic or is it a combination of plastic and metal? I know the final model will be mostly metal but this mock-up looks like it is made completely of plastic. I'm just curious.

This is not a metal but not a plastic kit as well. It is made of some materials used for prototype building (I foret the English name of it).
