Re: And the winner is...Hobby Master?

Yeah, I'd like to see some more Soviet jets in 1/72nd. MiG-15, 17, 19, and early 21s (the F and F-13 versions); Il-28 Beagle; and the Fitters- Su-7, Su-17/20/22.

That's a nicre selection of Soviet jets. Like the Mig 19, but would be happy with a Mig 15 or 17.

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

Re: And the winner is...Hobby Master?

ANY soviet-designed/produced WWII VVS aircraft would be just wonderful!!! My first three choices in 1/72 would be the Pe-2, La-5FN, and LAGG-3. In 1/48 I would wish for the highly anticipated I-16, as well as the MiG-3 and the La-7. All of the VVS WWII aircraft provide an excellent variety of colorful markings, lots of aces to pick from. How great would it be to have Kozhedub's La-7 "White 27" in 1/48 done to HM's quality standards? Or a 1/72 Pe-2 in winter camouflage? Please oh please oh please................

Unfortunately, despite repeated requests on this forum, it doesn't look like Tier 1 makers like Hobby Master or anyone else are interested in making Soviet-designed WWII aircraft. In short, the choice is either to buy underwhelming (IN MY OPINION) Easy Model or woeful IXO ones or go without VVS models at all.

I'm pretty sure that the "Cold War" Sukhois and MiGs will be made, but as things stand now, I doubt that will see anything VVS circa WWII any time soon if at all.

Regards,

Sergey

I am still keeping out some hope that HM will put out some of these aircraft. If they were to put out an I-16, pretty sure that I would pick up one of each version.

I understand your frustration Sergey, I am choosing to remain hopeful like Cruver. WWII VVS soviet-made aircraft and the contribution they made to the war effort are getting alot more attention in the plastic modeling industry lately, one can only hope that the diecast industry will see the rising popularity of the subject and capitalize on the opportunity. Hobby Master seems to be the kind company that would rise to the occasion, who knows what might happen. I am going to continue dreaming of a Hobby Master 1/48 La-7 and MiG-3.

By the way, if anyone is interested in the history of the variations of Kozhedub's La-7 "White 27" , here is a great article on the subject written by Erik Pilawskii.
Kozhedub's White 27

Here is an excellent 1/48 plastic build-up of how "White 27" probably looked in its last wartime livery, by Aleksandar Sekularac. This is a beautiful build IMHO.
Lavochkin La-7 by Aleksandar Sekularac (Gavia 1/48)

And here is a page with a brief history of Kozhedub, and a few other Soviet WWII aces.

ac4313, thanks for posting those sites. Some really good reading and the 1/48th La-7 model is awesome. With the important contribution that the Soviet aircrews made during WWII, it would be nice to see some of these aircraft done up right in diecast. Stomp stomp,,, waive waive,,, any one seeing this. ac4313 thanks again for posting those neat sites.

Re: And the winner is...Hobby Master?

Why not do a poll? I personally see nothing in these Russian birds you all are asking for. And thats not just the old Cold War BS coming out. I really don't see anything interesting about them. I guess they would have interesting histories fighting against Nazi Germany. But compared to Luftwaffe aircraft, even I'll give a nod to the Germans. And Soviet jets don't spin me up either.
So I suggest a poll and see what the interest is? I wish those of you who want them luck.

See ya all in about 15 months!!

Performance of the later Soviet WWII fighters was actually pretty impressive. They definitely were no slouches. Shoot Ivan Nikitovich Kozhedub scored 62 aerial victories flying Lavochin La-5s and La-7 (More well associated with the La-7).

But at the same time, the Yaks, though small, scored high against both of the main German fighters, especially in the middle and late period of the Eastern war. (As an aside, before the war started, the Soviets and Japanese took a huge toll of each other in a series of battles in Siberia. At that time the sides were flying I-16s and A5Ms and such.) Also, some of the Soviet twin-engined fighters and fighter bombers were good looking planes. I'd love to have a copy of any of them...

Re: And the winner is...Hobby Master?

The issue is where do your interests lie. Growing up, I watched the movie "Flying Leathernecks" with John Wayne. I was so taken in by this movie that I read everything I could about the Pacific airwar. So for over 40 years, that's what I've really been interested in. When I was 12, I saw the movie 12 O'clock High with Gregory Peck. Yep, you guessed it - I also was taken in with the whole 8th Air Force bombing war in Europe. I never was remotely interested in what happened between Germany and Russia. I read about this part of the war in school but this part of the war held absolutely no fascination for me then nor does it now. That's why I'm not interested in any Russian WWII birds. In fact, I recently bought an EasyModel P-40 in Russian markings. First thing I did was remove the stars and repainted it for an early WWII U.S. Army P-40. So I hope you guys get your Rusian birds. But don't be surprised if you don't get the overwhelming outcry for these planes that you hope for.

Doing what you want is freedom; doing what you like is happiness.
