Re: First HM "Kate" prepro pictures

Hi,

I received a copy of image from our Japan expert today. He recommends a INJ Greenish Gray (please see attached). But since it is quite widely accepted that the underside is silver, we decide to stick to all overall silver.

For the propeller and bombs they are "pre-pro" mistakes and will be corrected.

Thank you William. I am grateful to Hobby Master to finally get an accurately painted Kate! It has been a pleasure working with you. If you need any further assistance with WWII Japanese aircraft camouflage and markings, we will be happy to help.

Re: First HM "Kate" prepro pictures

Hi guys, jumping in here.

It's not often mentioned but Richard Tregaskis, in his firsthand August 1942 accounting in Guadalcanal Diary, mentions Japanese planes having silver undersides as viewed from the ground. He may have been referring to Bettys, and 9 months after Pearl, but it's still anecdotal (and very valuable) evidence in the overall discussion.

And may I vote for the Kate in 1/48, while I have the floor. Thanks.

I have come across similar descriptions in some of books I have read covering Singapore and the Philippines.

Re: First HM "Kate" prepro pictures

Speaking as someone who doesn't know diddly about aircraft liveries, it's great to see a manufacturer working with knowledgeable hobbyists to produce an accurate model. It's even better to see a manufacturer producing new and exciting models at all -- I've been waiting for a 1:72 Kate for a while, and Hobby Master's Kate will definitely have a prominent position in my aircraft display. Now bring on the Val, too -- then Hobby Master can turn to the MC.202, F3F, Schneider Trophy winners...

Nrrrm! Whoosh! Rat-tat-tat!

Folks at Marushin put out a fairly nice looking Kate in 1/48th scale, have thier Val and think it looks pretty good. Just a though in case the folks at HM do not put the Kate out in 1/48th scale.

I have the Marushin Pearl Harbor Kate and it is very nice. I just wish the underside was painted silver rather than light gray.

Oops - we're in the Hobby Master forum. We better take this over there!
