A-4 Dilemma

Guys, I am getting ready to begin starting my collection of early model jets. As such, and the fact that I have to be on the look out for sales, I am really interested in the A-4. I read with great interest every ones comments about the Israeli A-4. Yet, for some reason I think I want to stick with American markings, and am leaning toward the John McCain A-4.

I did not really see any comments about the McCain version, and except for the pictures I don't really have any other feedback.

Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: A-4 Dilemma

I'd get one with the "hump" and one without. The Israeli bird has one of the best paint schemes in my opinion. For the no hump version in US markings either the McCain or Gladiators would be good. I like the Gladiators markings better. Just a bit more colorful.

If the loadout factors into the equation, you might also want to wait for Lady Jesse, as I beleive that one will come with bombs.

I know you are leaning toward US schemes, but with the excetion of the flag issue, the Argentinian scheme is also great.

Re: A-4 Dilemma

I can't really offer any good info about the A-4 other than I have two of them and I really like them. I have the VA-106 gladiators and the Navy Top Gun adversary versions.

Re: A-4 Dilemma

The definitive variant was the one that flew over 'Nam making the McCain version a must have. That and the fact it flew off the Oriskany as a member of the Saints. Check out the Military channel about this very subject- fascinating.

Re: A-4 Dilemma

You could go with Hobby Master A-4M Skyhawk "The Last Skyhawk" 1:72 SKU: HA1401....You get a US bird, the hump and some color. Maybe I'm crazy, but I think my favorite right now is Hobby Master A-4 Skyhawk, Royal Australian Navy, VF-805 1/72 SKU: HA1405. I just really like the color scheme.

As many have said, it is a good one so I would get that one! If he becomes the next US Prez, then you got yourself a great Skyhawk scheme for your collection!

I knew there was something I was missing with the McCain Version, but I could not figure out what - no hump.

I must have looked at that model 50 times and never noticed there was no hump. Thanks for pointing that out to me Slammin.

With that being said, I will go ahead and get both. Since it costs the same to ship 2 planes as it does 1, I will consider the savings on the shipping to be my reason of getting both.

Re: A-4 Dilemma

I have the Argentine version to go with my Corgi Falklands Harrier. I know you are looking at American bird but the Aussie model looks good, with the grey on grey camo, except for the heavy panel lines. If I was to get another and it being an US version I would have to get McCain's, don't really like the "hump back" on the other versions.
