Canopies on F-4D Phantom

I was looking at the pictures of the pre-production F-4D Phantom and noticed a couple of things about the canopies. First, of course, there is the much discussed and incorrect single tab on the rear canopy. However, I noticed that the front canopy and the center section without the also much-discussed side windows, seems to be one piece. In other words, the front canopy cannot open and hinge on the center section because it looks to be a single piece. Then I looked at the description on Hawkonevoodoo's site and noticed it says that the canopy can be positioned open or closed. So, what does all of this indicate? It seems to me that it indicates that the canopy shown on the preproduction model is not the one which will be on the production version. I don't see how it can be and still be positionable. If it was, it would be a colossal error on HM's part. So seeing that they obviously have to make changes to the front canopy, I am hoping they will also change the hinge arrangement on the rear canopy and get rid of that single large tab on the rear canopy. Maybe, we can hope the canopies will be right in the end.

Re: Canopies on F-4D Phantom

I sure hope they correct the canopy!...the rest of the model looks as good as a CW. Has David H. chimed in on the accuracy of this model yet?

I sincerely hope that HM get their Phantom right first time. The liveries are just too good for them to spoil these.

Whatever happens I'm still gettng the Happy Days duo. And apparently so will several others, did you notice the number of Corgi Phantoms popping up on E-bay recently? These will be welcomed additions to any hangar.

Re: Canopies on F-4D Phantom

I expect the canopy will be done like a Corgi Tornado--separate open and closed parts, not a "moving" canopy. (Because it's usually too complex to have 2 individual canopies each open indendently on a model----each pilot has his own, it's not one giant all-encompassing canopy like on a Tomcat)
