Hobby Shop Help for a Hong Kong VIsit

Hi everyone
Any body know of some good hobby shops in Hong Kong? I'll be taking a trip for business in the next few weeks and will have a couple of evenings free. I figure since most diecast comes out of Asia they must have some pretty good places and deals. I have about 25 diecast in 1/48 scale. The bulk are Armour/Franklin Mint but I have a couple Marushin, Carousel, and the Hobby Master Buffalo which is really well done. I have a goal to try to obtain an example of each of the aircraft flown, crewed or serviced by the WWII vets I've been able to interview over the years. (my other hobby) Many of these however are not even produced in diecast much less 1/48 scale. Its also getting more expensive all the time. I'd like to get the new PBY but FM seems to be pushing the prices pretty high on that one.

I'd really like to find some of the Italian aircraft especially a SM-79 and a MC-202.. I heard HM might produce a 202 but they are very vague in their responses to my questions.

Here is the site where I've interviewed about 50+ vets if there is any interest. ken_arnold_1919 's Home Page WWII Memories

Hobby Master had the Macchi C.202 on their possible future 1/48th scale models last year, but have heard nothing since then.

Welcome to the forum, missed that was your first post. Quite a bit of useful information here, and a few WWII Italian aircraft fans, well at least two or three. (Three for sure now that you are a member).

Re: Hobby Shop Help for a Hong Kong VIsit

Welcome to the forum. Hope you find something in the diecast kingdom...

(My last trip to HK was some 44 years ago and involved making the locals mad (cursing me, they were!!) when I inadvertently bought some goods in the wrong large department store, and carried the goods around in a bag covered with Communist Chinese slogans! Obviously, given the year, that was a no-no. And given that I was dressed in US Navy blues, that was a special no-no.)

Welcome to the forum, Ken. I've never been to Hong Kong, so I'm afraid I cannot help you there. Great site you have there, I've added it to my favorites.

Re: Hobby Shop Help for a Hong Kong VIsit

Hi Ken, you may want to check out a departmental store called Sogo in Causeway Bay. It is directly above the Causeway Bay MTR station. Head for the Toys section and they carry a decent range of Witty and HM models. Prices are pretty ok as well.

For smaller shops, head over to Mongkok district and just walk around Soy Street and Dundas Street etc. There is a Dragon DML megastore along Nathan Road (in Mongkok as well). 3 Stories of toys and models.

if you are looking for kits, then head to Waterloo Street (the stretch after the intersection of Argyle Street onwards)...plenty of small model shops for you to explore.

Enjoy ur trip
