Re: HA1901 F-4D Phantom II, Steve Ritchie

From past experience, once we see the pre-production photos, it seems that it's too late for HM to re-tool the mold. The only corrections I've seen from them are regarding the paint application if I remember correctly.

I believe you're right about the paint apps correction. Didn't HM do that on the P-39? In the case of the new F-4 Phantom, I suspect that the only correction that will be made
is repainting the canopies to reflect the proper outline of the frames, but for remolding the single hinge error on the 3rd aft canopy piece to accomodate the two hinge pins....
I seriously doubt that's going to happen if the finished molds have been tooled up!

Yup...I think we're outa luck on the canopy hinge and side window correction - darn it! Maybe it's not too late but I think it probably is.

HM did do different canopy molds to reflect differences in their Buffalo models, maybe they could do something similar in this case with regards to the framework.

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

I think the space between the two canopies is metal as is the area behind the rear canopy...so it's probably too late.

Re: HA1901 F-4D Phantom II, Steve Ritchie

As far as the side window goes, I would be happier if they would even paint it in in black. That would be better than having nothing there at all. As for changing the mold, they have done so in the past after the pictures of the pre-production model are released. For instance, on the 1/32 SBD the pre-production pictures showed the carburator airscoop molded shut. This error was brought to HM's attention and the production model was corrected with the open airscoop. I surely hope they fix that rear canopy hinge on the F-4. I will still buy one, but I really don't want to correct that hinge arrangement if I don't have to.
