Re: HA1901 F-4D Phantom II, Steve Ritchie

I think that pre-production F-4D looks great-- I can't wait to get mine. I did notice one thing that I would suggest to Hobby Master that they address. There is a small window on each side between the two canopies. If you look at photos of the real thing, you will see it. I would suggest that this be put on the model. It could even be painted black to represent the window, but it would be better if it were there.

As to the panel lines, I thought they looked good on the pre-pro model. They weren't overdone, yet were sufficiently subtle. As for me, I would suggest to HM doing on the production models whatever you did on the pre-pro model.

Yes, good catch on that one! HM, please correct it before releasing this one!!!

Really it should look more like this.
Don't forget the silver strip.

Re: HA1901 F-4D Phantom II, Steve Ritchie

Looks really nice and I'll definitely pick one or two up. I only wish HM would have hinged the canopy like their Skyhawk. The Skyhawk canopy doesn't have a hinge tab that shows unlike what is, to me, glaringly apparent from the Pre-pro. HM Phantom picture. (The pictures are from Hawkonevodoo's site BTW, hope you don't mind Hawk).

Sorry for nitpicking, the hidden hinge look makes the model look so much nicer......kinda like the CW Tomcat vs. the FOV Tomcat, same mold but the attention to little details like the hinges make the CW more appealing!

HM don't forget about the "catseye" at the front of the windscreen we don't want another Witty first run Tomcat on our hands. I am sure this will be resolved on the production model since it looks as if the catseye is molded just not painted.

Whats the deal with the neon green pain on the top ridge of the right AIM-9/TER pylon?

Good point on the hinge, much nicer job on the Skyhawk.

Although I am normally a fan of panel lines, I think that in this case, the plane would look best without them or at the very least a very toned down wash. Not that a change can likely be made at this point, just my humble opinion...

Re: HA1901 F-4D Phantom II, Steve Ritchie

They need to get rid of the formation strip lighting. F-4's fighting MiGs tended not to have bright lights installed broadcasting their position....

Re: HA1901 F-4D Phantom II, Steve Ritchie

Yes, looking at the rear canopy "hinge", it doesn't look quite right. I am at work right now so I can't be looking up Phantom pictures, but I seem to remember that the rear canopy had two smaller "hinges". Can someone with more access to better photos of the real thing weigh in on this? If it is possible, I would suggest changing the molds in this area to more correctly reflect how the rear canopy is hinged.

We are not trying to be nit-pickers here-- we are just trying to make what is obviously a very nice model even better!
