| Airacobra Mk.1 Project Well the Hobby Master RAF Mk.I "City of London" Airacobra showed up at the door yesterday. Model looks great, but one of the critiques for the HM P-39s is the absence of gun barrels in the nose. So a little over a week ago I started to make some gun barrels to place in the gun troughs in the nose of the model. I really had to sand down the barrels as thin for more of a flush fit in the troughs (Well at least close to a flush fit). They are slightly over scale in length so as they can be seen better. If closer to scale, well might just be a bit hard to see. This is my first crack at it and might do a second set of barrels to see I can improve how it looks. ![]() ![]() ![]() | |||||||||||||

| Re: Airacobra Mk.1 Project Beautiful job Cruver! I wouldn't mess with the guns as they look really good as is. That's a really sharp looking P-39. | |||||||||||||

Thanks, these P-39s are great looking models. The Soviet and Guadalcanal planes look mighty tempting too.

| Re: Airacobra Mk.1 Project
Thanks, I am real pleased ow this mod turned out. Was able to get a match color wise for the gun barrels to those already on the wings by using Testors Gunmetal Buffing Metalizer paint. It was a bit of a chore sanding down the bases of the barrels I made to get them close to flush, but the results look pretty good. New barrels are even visible when standing back at a distance, and looks pretty good.

| Re: Airacobra Mk.1 Project Cruver, Hey there. I've got a couple of Airacobra's on the way and I was considering doing something like taking a piece of really thin wire, cutting it down and putting it in with a (small) drop of white glue. (Because I have NO modelling skills whatsoever.) My idea wouldn't be as good as your idea, but since you have the bird in front of you, do you think I can reasonably pull something like that off? | |||||||||||||
