Re: Atlantic paint scheme Avenger

I could not find a decent shot of the tail end of the Avenger, but did come across a nice shot of the cowling. Looks like it had some rather unsual personal markings.

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

Re: Atlantic paint scheme Avenger

According to the Wings of Fame color profile, these were the colors used on the Atlantic Fleet Avengers-
Non-specular Dark Gull Grey over glossy Insignia White. On the tail, Non-Specular White. National insignia bars were outlined in blue.

Re: Atlantic paint scheme Avenger

According to the Osprey "TBF/TBM Avenger Units of World War 2" it looks like the model has the wrong paint scheme: "Len-Sharon is unusual in apparently being insignia white overall, without the grey portion of the ETO colour scheme." Basically, it has a small amount of grey, if any, when compared to the standard Atlantic scheme. The picture above confirms this since the normal Atlantic scheme would include grey around the greenhouse and on top of the cowl. If you have this book, check out color plate 18.

As for a bureau number, the color plate doesn't show one, and I haven't found one within the text of the book.
