F6F Blue Angels

I've seen a pic at Pete's Collectibles, and it looks great but shouldn't there be something on the wing bottoms? All it had was a yellow one on the tail and US NAVY on the sides.

Looks like it did carry US NAVY under the wings. Check out the photo on this site, specifically the second photo in the second column of pics:

http://www.blueangels.org/Aircraft/H...s/Hellcat.html

Interesting Note: According the this site, the "Yellow" used was actually gold leaf...Yeah, I'm sure we'll get that detail!

Also, the pic of the BA Hellcats with the Privateer is sweet!

Killing threads since 2006.

You were looking at the same site i was.....Maybe the US Navy under the wing didn't come on till later in 1946 ?
I don't know..... I have always seen a US Navy under the wing of that Hellcat.
If you notice the pictures taken by Menard Norton on June 15, 1946, at the second Blue Angel Airshow
That last picture of the Hellcat..No US Navy under the wing either it looks like.

George Preddy was......Just the greatest fighter pilot who ever squinted through a gunsight.
He was a complete fighter pilot.......Colonel John C. Meyer Deputy Commander of the 352nd.

The one photo on the site with four lined up on the ramp does not appear to have anything underneath the wing.

Re: F6F Blue Angels

Maybe its me, but it wouldn't be right without the US Navy under the wings!

Re: F6F Blue Angels

Okay, here's what I've been able to gather as far as evidence to the contrary, that the Hellcat photos I see in my book:

Reflections Of Blue: A Pictorial History of the U.S. Navy Blue Angels by Carol Knotts, published in 1979 by Specialty Press

Did NOT have the "US NAVY" label under the wings of the F6F Hellcats flown by Lt. Cmdr. "Butch" Voris and his teammates.
It was only implemented during the team's transition to the F8F Bearcats in August of 1946.
