| Re: F6F Blue Angels
Amen...A little more fuel for the fire: All was in order to commence accelerated training. The Grumman F6F Hellcats were modified and painted blue and gold in a Navy conservative paint scheme. US NAVY in gold block letters on underside of the wings, NAVY on both sides of the fuselage, and tail numbers 1 through 4 on the vertical fins. The enemy fighter was painted yellow with a large red meatball on each side of the fuselage, and a 0 on the vertical fin. The gold markings on the Hellcats were done in laid-on gold leaf, not just painted on. From: http://www.blueangels.org/History/Voris/FirstBlu.html Tenth Paragraph

| Re: F6F Blue Angels Hobby Master will be making the Hellcat with the US NAVY under the wings and the lettering will be gold leaf as far as I know. I haven't been able to establish contact with the BA public affairs office so they haven't been a good source. I think going with the letters under the wings is the way to go. Roy Voris wanted the public to know that the team was USN so he would have had it painted on the bottom since that probably is the side the public would see the most. Plus there are the pictures that show the planes with the letters so I think with or without the letters would be acceptable but with the letters would be even more acceptable. | |||||||||||||

Yep Lettering would be fine. Bring it on, with the Skyhawk of course.

| Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes. | ||||||||||||||

| Re: F6F Blue Angels ...and to clarify, the FM/Armour model has it with "U.S." under the right wing and "NAVY" under the left, just the way it is seen in that one photo (not "U.S. NAVY" under each wing as on subsequent aircraft). The photo from Blue Angels.org I would say pretty well confirms it.... Bring it on, HM!.....then follow it up with a Bearcat! | |||||||||||||

| Re: F6F Blue Angels Here's an idea for a Blues related set- package the Hellcat along with the SNJ painted up like the Zero. The SNJ, according to the books, was yellow with a big red "meatball" on the fuselage and wings. The number 0 was on the rudder. | |||||||||||||
