Re: F6F Blue Angels

On the same site it shows the 4 Hellcats (one spare) sitting on the ramp and there doesn't seem to be anything under the wings. Could it just be the angle of the picture and the markings don't show or are they conflicting pictures. They both are supposed to be from the same show on the same day.
As for the link to the decals, it shows the BA F6F-2, I didn't know they flew the -2, I thought they only flew the -5. If they only flew the -5 then I don't think we can't consider the decal source as accurate. I'd like to get this thing settled before the process of mmodel making has gone too far to change.

I'd found all that earlier and keep racking my brain as to what the deal is...Hawk, I'd check with the museum to make sure.

Guys,
F6F-2 is the designation for this individual decal set. Here is the complete catalog for this company:

You will notice that they make multiple decals sets for different aircraft.

Re: F6F Blue Angels

I just emailed the Blue Angels Public Affairs Office and asked if they could tell me if the Hellcats had or did not have gold US NAVY under the wings. I aslo called but it is 8:00 PM in Florida so there was no answer. If I don't get an email reply tomorrow I will call again.

Re: F6F Blue Angels

I am curious to find out what the appropriate markings for F6F are.

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

I wouldn't be surprised if even those guys don't know for sure. The Hellcat was used in only a handful of demonstrations before the Blues transitioned to the F-8F....

it is however under the wings of my FM/Armour Blue Angels Hellcat...but then again, they also painted the wheels silver, the insides of the gear doors light blue, and the prop tips orange!

What color is the 'U.S. Navy' under the wings painted? Is it yellow or gold?

I think it was only used for a couple of months in 1946.

It's yellow, same as the fuselage lettering, which as we know would only be correct for Blue Angels aircraft starting with the F-8F to the present.....
