Pre production photos of Guadalcanal P-400

Hawk posted some pre productuon photos of the Guadalcanal P-400 Airacorbra on his site. The folks at HM have the exhaust stubs and nose armament correct for the P-400 variant of the Airacobra. I had not intended on picking one of these up, but just might change my mind and snag one of these.

Re: Pre production photos of Guadalcanal P-400

Looks like the best one in this series so far. I hope that they refrain from inking the panel lines, which is the way these pictures depict the model, from the production run. I'd rather weather the plane myself.

I vaguely recall Hawk mentioning previously that on 1/72nd scale HM would no longer embellish the panel lines, but still might continue to do so on the 1/48th scale models. The first in the Bf 110 would seem to be an indication of this. Shame, I thought they might trend towards toning down, instead of completely forgoing this kind of detail. Case of back to factory fresh paint schemes, but I do like their products (And will continue to pick them up.).

I hope you are right, though it's too bad that they can't just tone down the panel lines. Obviously, this is not a question of feasibility but, rather, of cost factors, quality control and worker training issues.

Re: Pre production photos of Guadalcanal P-400

I wasn't planning to get this one (I prefer my shark mouths on P-40s and Bf-110s), but the pictures look good and I'll probably put an order in.

As to heavy/light panel lines, it's not a deal breaker for me.

Same here, I never really had an issue with the way HM embellished the panel lines on their models. It was a neat attempt to distinguish their products from what was currently being produced. Toned down a bit would be nice, but I still liked the way their products looked. Hard to imagine a fighter sitting out at some forward base in the jungle looking so pristine and clean.

Re: Pre production photos of Guadalcanal P-400

I checked out the pictures of these last night and placed my pre-order already. In general, I think Hobby Master do a fine job with the panel lines. (Or without as the case may be?) The lines are rarely a deal breaker for me.

I agree 100% djjeffhall. I like HobbyMaster's inked in panel lines and hope they don't get rid of them altogether. I will definitely be getting one of these!

This doesn't seem to be the case, actually as the new Italian 104 has a heavy wash

That is kind of odd, I would have liked to have seen some of that wash on the Bf 110. I just looked at pictures on the HM site and all the 104s seem to have some degree of wash to them. Maybe it is a case of faulty memory on my part.
