Re: Nakajima B5N2 Kate and NASA F-104N

I stumbled on to a website ( J-aircraft.com Main Page ) and found some information about the first Kate that HM is going to give us. According to several posts on this forum, the Kate had an upper surface camouflage of JN Green with a brown mottle. Its tail was red as were the upper portions of the horizontal stabilizers. The plane's number/ID ( EII-307 ) was listed on the tail in red, on a brown strip of paint ( seems odd ), and the last number ( 7 ) was featured on the undersides of the wings. In addition, the plane, which commanded its unit--hence the red tail---had two white bands around the rear fuselage near the tail. Finally, and most important, EII-307, like all planes in the second attack wave, carried only bombs, not torpedoes-----in this case an 800lb bomb.

Assuming that the above information is true, it will be interesting to see how HM represents this particular Kate.

Nothing to get excited about, just a space filler till a better one comes along.

CC - can you please tell us who makes that Hawk model?

Level bomber version of the Kate would look great, and expect they will do some torpedo versions anyhow.

I cannot remember the company right off hand, but will do a little digging to find it for you.

I don't mean to preempt CC but I have that information. The company was Legacy Of Valor, LLC, which was located at 7131 Five Mile Road, Cincinnati, Ohio ( Zip: 45230 ) as of 2003. They also put out an F4F and, I believe, a B-17, and the line was carried by the Military Toyshop. This no longer seems to be the case, however, and I suspect that these folks may have fallen by the wayside. In any event, the P-36 had gaps between the upper and lower halves of its plastic wings and was otherwise not very inspiring.

Epapazian is right, not to impressive a model. I picked one up just to have a P-36 on the shelf.

Re: Nakajima B5N2 Kate and NASA F-104N

Neither one excite me, especially the Kate being a Pearl Harbor attacker. Maybe its me, but thats like having a 911 passenger jet model. But I understand some will really like that. Oh well. I'll hold out for the Atlantic Avenger and some Helldivers from HM.

Well its unfortunate, but war planes are built for war. They are merely the instruments of governments and their foreign policies.

Thumbs up Re: Nakajima B5N2 Kate and NASA F-104N

Nice pics there Ships. I'm pleased to hear that we'll be seeing another Japanese aircraft in 1/72 from good manufacturer. I'll more favourably disposed to fighters but this is a good sign nonetheless.
