Re: Hobby Master Brewster Buffalo observations

Personally I do not think that HM flooded the market with Buffaloes, nor am I against flooding if the product is a good one, which in my opinion Buffalo is. They have their cons like visible screws and to an extent lack of detail but as a foray into 1/48 scale HM did a good job and made suprisingly small number of errors especially regarding differencies between sub types. For all of you who did not buy one, get one before it will be too late. As for Finnish Buffaloes hope to see at least four different liveries if not more, those were planes with some of the highest kill ratios in dogfight history which served number of years before being struck of charge-they really need to be represented properly not with just one or two liveries.....and afterwards maybe a Fokker D.XXI to keep them company

Nice to see another Fokker D.XXI supporter out there. Good looking fighter that has some neat looking paint schemes associated with it. Four HM Buffalos sporting Finnish livery would be fine by me.

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

Re: Hobby Master Brewster Buffalo observations

Its worth a comment about HM and the decision to make the Buff.

I was so pleased to see that Hm had the courage to try out an obscure plane (not obscure at all to us collectors) that I jumped at the chance to buy into the mold.
The side effect of their decision to make the Buff was to get my support in most of their forays into the diecast market.
They have not let me down and continue to bring to the market new and exciting planes, so I will continue to do my best to support them as and when I have the available cash.
I think we are lucky to have HM in the game , after all that has happened to Corgi , Dragons lapses and the slow input from Gemini where would we be without them?

God Bless America.

Amen to that brother!

As to their excellent Buffalo, I'd like to get a couple more, but sadly I just can't afford them. Like usual I'll have to wait and pick at the leftovers.

I am also hearing the siren's song calling me to buy another Buffalo to display on my desk at the office, next to my Midway USMC F2A-3. It doesn't help that the local shop has a sale that ends Wednesday. I could get the Dutch 339C for just $32, or one of the VF-2 F2A-2s for $36, and it's tempting...

The problem is that, between my Midway Buffalo and my two F3Fs, I really don't have any more space on my desk for another plane.

Re: Hobby Master Brewster Buffalo observations

...Netherlands would seem to be the only slow mover....

This does seem to be the case, but that's a real shame. At the moment it's the only one I have, although I do plan to add some more. I think the dark colors suit the Buffalo very well, and the orange markings set it off nicely. But there's also a really good story behind this plane - it saw some heavy combat, its pilot was credited with three victories (two Nates, the other eludes me) and was shot down twice during the Dutch East Indies' short struggle with the Japanese. This Buff therefore is one of the few versions that HM has done that actually was blooded in combat - and it looks great with other birds from the same era, like Marushin's Zeros and Oscars, or C1's Flying Tigers P40. I'd recommend it to any Buff buff, especially if you can get a discount!

I have all of the HM Buffalos and Lt. August Deibel's Buffalo is one of my favorites. Like the looks of the Dutch markings and as you mentioned, neat that it is one that actually saw combat.

Perhaps that's why I got one a while back for only $19.99. I like it!

Good pick! Can't go wrong with that price.
