Re: Hobby Master Brewster Buffalo observations

Very nice HC. Good pick up, glad you go this one. I don't think there's a bad HM Buffalo; all are really fine! Cruver Collector has an example of each model produced, and can probably tell you the edition size of yours. Here's a hint: if it's limited, you'll have a collector's card in your box.

Yeah Ara - I do, as it happens - still sealed-up in it's 'little-bag'

TBH , I ALWAYS ignore the cardboard 'junk' as I never bother/worry about cert's anyhow !!!!!!!!

I really only bought it, as I liked the scheme - & every time I went to the warehouse, I'd see it, sitting there in the display cabinet !!!!!!

When I asked the Girl who works there, she said "we've only got the 'one' left", so I bought it !!!!!!!!

Wasn't sure if they'd 're-stock' - or whether that was it ?????????

If there wasn't so much else 'dangling the carrot' around at the moment, I'd prob' pick up the 'Long-Island' F.2, as well as maybe one of the 'Yellow-Wing' USN F.2's

As it was, when I bought my RNZAF F.2, I also picked up 2 x IXO Defiant's, 2 x Corgi Ju.88's, another SBD & F.6-F in 1/48th, plus other stuff, so it seems each visit, I end up spending too much (ya know the 'score' ??????)

We live in completely different worlds. There are no stores in my area that sell diecast planes, well, there's one, about 40 miles away, of which I'm visiting tomorrow. But all my diecast buys (30 by now?) are internet. Diecast planes are not counter business here in northern Massachusetts. A fargan shame. Congrats on your purchases, your house must be mighty heavy by now. As is mine. In fact, in my SBD thread, the display pics (last two pics in the thread) are at work, in my office... keeping me company during the day!

The Buffalo you picked up is an excellent choice, and I sure wish I had a store that sold diecast close by. Closest quality store would be in the Dallas/Fortworth area and that is over a two hour drive away.

Really really interesting; hearing these views from you two guys - as you're both so knowledgeable on planes; & Avid collectors also.....

I'm told that, in England, you're never more than 60 miles from ANY part of the coast !!!!!!!! (I'm less than ONE mile !)

Point is, we 'Brit's DO tend to 'Bitch & Gripe' if we HAVE to drive any distance for anything, which I guess is true for many civilised Western-World Nations.......

Between London & the River-Thames where I was born, right up to the Beautiful-Area where I live now, most things I've ever wanted are 'on' our doorstep !!!!!!!!

For Example, Duxford is only just about 40 - 45 minutes away - it's closer (much) "as the crow flies", but, what with traffic-congestion being what it is over here, 40 -45 minutes seems like "Ages".

Same goes for my nearest F.15 Base (Lakenheath) & neighbouring KC.135 base, with it's numerous 'interesting' visitors, though it's a pleasant 'ride' down the country-lanes, if I don't wanna take the car, in which case it's main roads & STILL 35-40 minutes away !!!!!!!

The Die-cast 'supplier' that I use is well known & VERY well patronised........

The ONLY real pain, is in the 'Wallet'-dept.........LOL !!!!!!!!!

It ALWAYS takes a 'Hammering' when I'm there, as I'm like a "kid in a sweetshop with a £50 note"

I saw those 'Century-Wings' A.6's last time I was there, thinking....." I MUST have one of....." (etc,)
NOW, we've got the A.7's.......!!!!!!!!!!!
& the Halifaxes........(etc, etc, etc) TOO MUCH CHOICE !!!!!!!!!

I picked up two 'Desert' Ju.88's for an amazing £20 ($40) when I bought the F.2 in the pictures !!!!!!!

Major-Advantage is, that NOW, I actually get to see the Die-Cast models 'in the flesh', before I decide whether or not to buy.

I naturally assumed that you guys who live 'Stateside' (generally) get "1st bite of the cherry" when it comes to 'Die-cast' pickings ????

No ???????

I haven't had one of those in a long while.

The US has a lot of stores etc, but 1/48 diecast planes are not a part of the mass consumer demand. Diecast cars are the thing. In NYC there are a few shops with planes, mostly 1/72.

Consider yourself very lucky HC.

Ara, On the strength of your quote I've 'Highlighted' - can we therby banish "Tank-Nut" & other CAR afficianados so they can't influence die-cast sales & stock choices, in said shops ?????????? LOL !!!!!

Looking at Die-cast cars, is like watching P*$$-evaporate only 'less-fun & less-realistic'

Ara & Cruv' - I shall be thinking of you guys, the next-time I'm there; in-store - watching my wallet get 'raped' !!!!!!!!!

Re: Hobby Master Brewster Buffalo observations

I finally received HA7006, F2A, 2-F-1, USS Lexington (210/1000). It is gorgeous! I highly recommend it. Lots has been said and written about HM's F2A models, so I won't go on and on about this one. But... there are two minor things to point out:

The BuNo on this particular aircraft is 1406. According to Joe Baugher's web-site, 1406 is an F2A-2. HM placed the designation F2A-1 on the tail. Minor point, but the correct variant should be F2A-2.

Another minor point of clarification... (and I think this has already been pointed out): Hawk's review of this model indicated it has a metal prop. The retail version, in actuality, has a plastic prop.

Re: Hobby Master Brewster Buffalo observations

HM Buffalos are nice looking models. I am really looking forward to upcoming Midway Buffalo. It should make a nice looking model, and a bit of a different look without the propeller spinner. If HM does same as last series, could be looking for 4 to 5 more Buffalos. I am real curious as to which ones might be produced. One possible paint scheme would be of a RAAF Model 339-23, it had the same 10 inch forward fuselage exstention that was found on the F2A-3.
