Re: Hobby Master Brewster Buffalo observations

Great thread guys, most insightful. I can't say that I'm particularly partial to the Buffalo but it consistantly receives great reviews. There's just so much new molds out there you have to be choosy. Which one would you rate as the best one out there. From previous threads my impression was that the Dutch East Indies one was very popular. A Finnish one would be nice, could go with the smaller scale Gladiator.

My first pick would probably be a tie between the RNZAF and Dutch Buffalo. The pre war paint schemes on the Buffalos look mighty sharp too. If they put out a Finnish Buffalo, well,,,, that would probably jump to the front of the list. Midway version would be another one I would not mind having. Captain William C Humberd's Buffalo would make a good choice for a Midway paint scheme.

Cool Re: Hobby Master Brewster Buffalo observations

Ta CC. I've looking at pre-war schemes both sides of the pond but particularly USN. Lots are very colourful and super cool. I missed the Lexington Dauntless and now I've been eyeing the C1 Wildcat. Looking forward to the pre-war Gladiator too.

Pre war C1 Wildcat is one that will probably be one of my next purchases. I think it would look pretty good sitting with the HM pre war Buffalos. Pre war Gladiators would be something that I would definitely want to pick up. Shame nobody puts out a Bristol Bulldog, now that aircraft had some really neat looking pre war paint schemes.

Re: Hobby Master Brewster Buffalo observations

Finnsh Buffalo would be a real fantastic choice.

I can think of two paint schemes - Captain Han Henrik Wind with 39 victories in a Buffalo and Finlands top scoring ace Warrant officer Ieno Ilmari Juutilainen with 34 victories in a Buffalo. The Fokker D.XXI would one of my number one picks. Fantastic selection of paint schemes too. Shoot both the previously mentioned Finnish pilots also had victories in this type aircraft. Some folks question these lesser known aircraft, but the Buffalo did seem to sell quite well.

I agree Ilmari Juutilainen is best known, esp' for his 94 kills & his '109's

HOWEVER - the OBVIOUS choice for a 'Finnish' Buffalo.........

would MOST-CERTAINLY have to be Lt.Lauri Pekuri's BW-372

I did post a picture in post No.7, but I guess it went un-noticed (?)

Certainly VERY, VERY precarious for such a RARE WW.II survivor........esp' with a rich combat-history !

Shame they didn't find the Russian Hurricane it shot down, moments before Lt. Pekuri set-down in the Lake that was to be BW-372's home for the next 60-odd years !!!!!!

I've attached some (potentially) mouthwatering pix

I guess/figure you guys have already seen these ???????

As she is now preserved for future-generations (but NOT restored, YET), like ANY recovered (or normally, restored) 'Warbird', folks visiting Museums will ALWAYS want a 'replica' of a "survivor" or of the "real" one they've just seen in a museum, so Pekuri's BW-372 could be a regular-seller ?

In the same way the Australian 'G'-George Lancaster & RAF-museum's 'S'-Sugar is, thesedays ?

Re: Hobby Master Brewster Buffalo observations

That would make for an real interesting paint scheme, a rare aircraft with a well documented history.

Re: Hobby Master Brewster Buffalo observations

My vote would be for Major Parks's Buffalo. His Midway island fight is especially moving, as he died not knowing 4 enemy carriers were about to be sunk in a real turn around.

Re: Hobby Master Brewster Buffalo observations

didn't anybody notice?

Hi HC,

Great pics, thanks for posting! The big question in the 1/48 diecast world is whether the Finnish national insignia is marketable in Europe.

If not, I am open to the model being produced with white circles and a separate decal. If I had the choice, that is.

It sure be nice if they could marked one with proper markings for sales in those countries it is allowed.

Here's the one that gets my vote - I took mine out the shop's display cabinet !!!!!!!!

How many of these have been produced overall = this actual-version ?????????

It's the RNZAF 'Singapore' version, which I reckon is the best one out there......

I took these pix straight-after the RAF Curtiss P.40 shots, that I posted in the 'F.M.' thread......

We were lucky to get some decent winter-sunlight, though, these were taken in shade !!!!!!!

Oh yeah, Ignore the date on the pix - it's B.S. = I took 'em on Sat 16th Feb ('08) !!!!!!!!

Re: Hobby Master Brewster Buffalo observations

Very nice HC. Good pick up, glad you go this one. I don't think there's a bad HM Buffalo; all are really fine! Cruver Collector has an example of each model produced, and can probably tell you the edition size of yours. Here's a hint: if it's limited, you'll have a collector's card in your box.
