Model creep in the age of diecast plenty

This time it was HM's fault. I just ordered the Australian A-4 and the polished JASDF F-104J. They looked so good I couldn't resist. The problem is, I don't normally collect "modern" jets.

This is model creep. You start collecting WWII 1/72 Corgis at $19.99 each, and end up with an institutional address and borrowed money ordering 1/48 Raptors at over $100 a whack. This wouldn't be so bad if I wasn't still collecting WWII 1/72 Corgis at $39.99 a whack!

Now, with all these new (especially HM) offerings, I'm having trouble staying within my planned and semi-affordable parameters.

Is anyone else having similar problems?

Man, it's scary how similar the symptoms of model creep are to drug addiction, or a gambling problem...

Re: Model creep in the age of diecast plenty

Lets look at this, Hmmnn. Try and answer these following questions.

1. Do you sometimes forget having ordered a diecast model?

2. Have you ever hid a recent diecast purchase from a loved one?

3. Do you binge purchase diecast models?

4. Have you sometimes ordered a diecast model first thing in the morning or before noon?

5, Have you ever ordered more than five diecast models in one day?

6. Do you spend time just thinking about your diecast collection?

7. Have you ever had a strong urge to buy a diecast model?

If you can answer yes to any of the questions,,,, well, you might just have a problem. Do not worry though, just wait a bit and Skunky or Tanknut will come up with some Ten Step Program.

# ? Do you ever visit a hobby store and cannot leave without buying a diecast model even though they don't have anything you collect/want?

Re: Model creep in the age of diecast plenty

Celtic, you may have to go back and refer to the "Obsession/Addiction" thread to get some more insight into this...
If you think you may be having a problem with the diecast purchases, all I can suggest is this- try going cold turkey for a set amount of time. Pick a month and make absolutely no purchases.

Yeah Right. I've tried going a week... ... no use, I'm hooked.

I know this list is intended as a bit of 'tongue-n-cheek', but honestly I CAN answer 'yes' to a lot of them. 'Model Creep' is an issue that has been silent among us until being exposed now -- thanx Smartd! (and CC!)

(head held in shame) Yes.

JPN

Had to add that one.
I did it twice this week, last time about 2 hours ago.
Picked up Coastal Command Wellington that I have resisted since September, but he did not have anything else I wanted
