Re: HM 1/32 SBD almost here??

JP,
I just can't understand why 21st Century Toys (who only make plastic planes and are definitely NOT high end) can make outstanding pilots/figures but the high end companies can't do the same! I'm tempted to just go buy a few inexpensive 21CT planes for the pilots and then give the planes to my 5 year old nephew.

I agree they do outstanding figures in both 1:18 and 1:32.
It would be nice to be able to buy just the 1:32 figures alone like you can with their 1:18 figures.
Right now i have used 21st pilots in 2 of my Corgi 1:32's and i'll be using the 2 Corsair pilots for
the Hobby Master SBD tomorrow when i get it.
Maybe these diecast companies need to get their pilots made by 21st.

I don't know, JP, at $14.96 (WalMart), 21st Century gives all 1:32 makers a run for their bucks. I have two Corgi 1:32s: Barkhorn & Lane, and they are great. However, at 10X the price of a 21st Century issue, I'm going to grab every 21st Century I can buy. In fact, two Macchis, c.202 & .c.205, are due to arrive tomorrow. Any idea when HM & Corgi will make these two Italian fighters in this scale? As an aside, I show the five 21st issues I already own to my aviation minded friends and they are very impressed by what they see.

One of these kids is not like the other...
One of these kids just isn't the same...
Can ya' tell which kid is not like the others...

Yeah, the HM Pilot is most definitely a young adolescent. Don't know how he got past the recruiting officer. His mom must have altered his flight suit for him.

Re: HM 1/32 SBD almost here??

the mule has pics up... just noticed that there looks to be no wash on this model. No wash on a warhorse like the SBD... heavy wash on a show plane like the italian 104... But, regardless, we've an SBD in 1:32 and it looks very, very nice indeed.

Mine is on the way, should be here Monday.

I wish I had something more to add other than this bird is a dream come true for me. The SBD has always been my favorite bird along with the P40.

Anything for a weird life.

Good thing you've got some room left for it in that curio, otherwise Fly and I would have to take it!

Re: HM 1/32 SBD almost here??

While headed home from LA today I stopped in at Burbank's House of Hobbies and had a gander at this bird. All I can say is wow. I don't think you can even compare this model to Corgi 1/32 birds, it's that good.

I had to do a lot of whining to get them to open one up for me to inspect; their 1st batch are all assigned to pre-orders and the interior styrofoam is sealed with tape so they had to open one before sending it out in the mail.

The finish and fit look superb. It's not as heavy as you might expect but still has some heft. The pilots are, in my opinion, garbage. I just can't believe HM would put out such a beautiful model, at such a high price tag, with such mediocre pilot figures. No stand, either. Beyond those 2 deficiencies, however, it is a fantastic model. Nice cockpit detail, fully sliding canopy pieces, 2 choices of armament and working dive flaps and other surfaces.

It is a limited edition and has a collector card but I could not find a production number and I could not see the reverse of the card. Perhaps someone else knows the production number. This looks like the iconic Dauntless but I bet the next one is going to be real purdy...

There isn't a stand with this bird? That is very disappointing.
