They don't slide in and out as well as opening, they do open and look like the 1/72 Dauntless HA0126 Hobby Master SBD-3 Operation Torch model plane

Re: HM 1/32 SBD almost here??

I thought the SBD just had pivoting split preforated clam shell flaps? The bottom flaps down and top flap extended up for diving. Did they really move into the wing when retracted?

I'm like you, I thought they just opened and closed, no sliding.

Definitely no sliding. From Aircraft Anatomy of World War II - Technical Drawings of Key Aircraft 1939 - 1945.

"SBD Dive flaps. Much of the trailing edge of the SBD's wing was taken up with perforated split dive flaps. Both upper and lower halves were hinged, the lower operating as conventional flaps during landing and take-off, but both halves operating in unison as dive brakes. To prevent tail buffet, the flaps were perforated with 1.75 inch holes."

My local store said he will have the new HM next Thursday. Hope that's a payday.

Re: HM 1/32 SBD almost here??

Hawkonevoodoo has posted some photos on his site of the "packaging" of the SBD and one picture of the SBD in its box. It wasn't real clear, but what I saw looked good. It looks like it has both the single and the dual mount machine guns. This is a nice touch as the USS Enterprise SBD's had the single mount till just before the Midway battle when they were fitted with the dual mounts, so both are correct for this plane. Also, it looks like it has the opening for the carburator intake on the cowl. This was blanked off on the pre-production model. Also, they dropped the Hamilton Standard decals from the propeller blades, which is correct for an SBD-3 of this period. So, from what I can see, it looks good. I am anxious to get my hands on the one I have pre-ordered.

Re: HM 1/32 SBD almost here??

Look carefully on the packaging pictures... there is a picture / icon of an aircraft--red--with text "1:32 Premium Collection" superimposed on it. I can't tell what the aircraft is. I may be reading too much into this, but I wonder (whatever it is) if this is a future 1:32 mold/casting?

Re: HM 1/32 SBD almost here??

Elmer,
Hey there. I would be really surprised if Hobby Master didn't make many more different 1/32 birds. They might grind them out slowly, but I'm sure we will get several more types.

Anything for a weird life.
