Re: HM 1/32 SBD almost here??

There was a post on the UK forum from the UK importer about proper assembly of the model. To fix the prop he recommended using wet paper to close the gaps between the prop and the mounting. When the paper dries it expands slightly and fills the gap preventing the droop. However I think if you do that the prop will no longer spin freely.

Not acceptable for a product costing approx. $150...

Re: HM 1/32 SBD almost here??

Can you either post or PM me as to exact directions on how to remove the prop from the pin so I can file it down and have the same modification that you had. The model looks great except for the drooping prop.

A word of caution...If that prop pin is too low to hold with pilers ...You won't be able to get a good grip on the pin..My friend got his the other day and he came by to have me fix it...I couldn't do it..Pin was too low in the slot ...I had more of a gap then he did and was able to hold my pin head with a needle nose vise-grip pilers.
He will have to cut the ring around the pin head to get it now...I wouldn't do that.
I have my pin head flushed in there after i fixed it..But for my friend he will have to take a xaco knife and trim the inside ring to get a good grip on the pin head....I told he he might want to send it back rather then risk it.

**Update On what he did**...Which to me was not a bright idea ...But he used super glue to hold the prop straight..He glued the front part where it spins inside the cracks.....I don't recommend doing this....He will never be able to spin the prop now ...He said he didn't care if the prop spins or not....His money not mine...

Anyway....
Here are some picture of what i'm talking about...If your pin head is not above the inside ring you won't be able to grip it with the needle nose pilars....If you can do it...You will have to twist and turn until that pin comes out..Must have patience.

Here it is all done..my pin is now flushed in like it should be.

Heck JP......I think it would've been easier for you to come over and fix my SBD for me what with all the instruction, photos and schematics you've contributed to this particular issue! Appreciate all the effort though, too bad I'm one of the slow ones who need every bit of instruction on this "simple" fix...I'm lame!!!

Re: HM 1/32 SBD almost here??

I think I'll just let it droop. Looks fine to me.
Overall, I like it but I paid about 3 times what I paid for some of my GMPs and when I think of that...well, it's just ok.

I guess I'm just spoiled with my cheap Corgi 32s and GMP 35s. Retail! What's that?

Re: HM 1/32 SBD almost here??

At $170.00 up here I will be giving this one a wide path. No way will I put out that kind of cash on a die cast model and then have to modify it so the prop. sits right. A slight screw up in the marking or colouring maybe but for HM to let a major QC issue such as this go doesn't sit well.

Re: HM 1/32 SBD almost here??

According to the UK importer (Tiger Hobbies), the prop and crew can be replaced by HM, when it has the problem sorted out (don't know if this is UK only or both UK and US). See DAF here:

Re: HM 1/32 SBD almost here??

Seen one in the flesh today and I was not really impressed, never mind the droopy prop assembly (which was actually touching the cowling) no real WOW factor for me. I ask the store owner about the prop issue and if it was on the rest of his stock and he just grimaced and said he only brought in 2 and hasn't pulled the other out of the box. By his reaction I guess he has not been contacted by his distributor or HM about the so called replacement props and aircrew.

More than a bit of a droop if it is touching the cowling. Hope they get this figured out by the second plane,
