Tbm-3d Vtn-90

We don't have a Devastator but we do have the Avenger. Along with my Buffalos I got the night fighting Avenger of VTN-90 that served on board USS Enterprise during the last week of 1944 through April 1945 when the Big E was knocked out of action by a Kamikaze. An excellent day by day history of VTN-90 is available here: VT(N)-90 Squadron History

Rockets come attached to the model. Bomb bay can be displayed open with a choice of a torpedo or four bombs inside. For gear down some glue will be required to get the gear to remain in their proper configuration. Otherwise the weight of the plane makes the gear bow out. Carrier deck is the Corgi one from the Corsair diorama.

1250Ships,
Thanks for posting the pictures. Or, more accurately CURSES!!!!

I've been trying to find reasons to not buy this bird. I wish they had not moulded the rockets onto the wings, and that has been a good enough excuse, but those photos are killer.

Anything for a weird life.

That is very nice...it looks like HM got the dark sea blue topside color correct. Do the other Avengers they make with the tri color camouflage have the correct shade of dark sea blue too?

Yep- 1/72. As to the paint questions I don't know the answers because this is the only Hobby Master Avenger I have right now. The other one I have is the Corgi Predators late war one. I took these photos of it earlier. Perhaps if I have time I can shoot them sitting next to each other.

It looks to me like HM got the dark sea blue top correct and CORGI got the intermediate blue sides correct. It's too bad they didn't get both correct on the same model!

You REALLY suprise me........I think that "'Intermediate'" on the 'Predator' looks REALLY NAFF !!!!!!!!!!!

If I'm wrong, then I reckon they ought to RE-PAINT Vraciu's REAL (the centre-section) '19' at Duxford........
(which looks correct to me.......) * pic' below

Been with/next to that 'flier' countless hours, on grass, in the hangar & watching her swoop over my head in the air, at Duxford & other locations..........

......... 'Horses for courses' , I guess, but I don't agree with ya.

By contrast, the "Intermediate" on my 'F.M' "Red-Shirley" & "James Flately" CAG look bang-on to me !

Not trying to argue, but I felt that when I had the chance to buy the 'Predator' TBM & I didn't, for that reason.

I feel personally, that the 'Predator's "Intermediate" looks like it has a "Turquoisy" 'hue' rather than a more 'cobalt' looking 'blue'..........

Re: Tbm-3d Vtn-90

On second thought, Hornchurch, I think you're right. It all depends on the particular photo you look at...which just goes to show ya that you can't trust photos for color references! It's funny to me that some people even try to use black and white photos to determine color.

Re: Tbm-3d Vtn-90

Hey, Ships -- thanks for the link to the VT(N)-90 squadron history site.

That's geat stuff, and it sold me on this bird. Now I hafta trek out to Burbank's House of Hobbies and pick it up... Unless the new Shamrock Bay version calls to me. I can't get them both, can I? Especially when I wanna pick up a few more Gemini Aces and I don't have room to display all my birds as it is... And they just keep makin' 'em!

Nrrrm! Whoosh! Rat-tat-tat!
