Two Brewster Buffalos and a Bf 110 today!

It was a quiet Monday morning and all through the apartment, I was seated on the sofa with a doughnut coming close to my mouth, When out on the porch there arose such a clatter, I sprang from my sofa to see what was the matter, but what to my wandering eyes should appear, yes a brown UPS truck,,, Ok you can pretty much see where this one is going. Christmas in January!!!! I opened the box so lively and quick,,,, Ok I guess I can get back to normal,,,, of course that depends on what your definition of normal is. Box open and yep, two Brewster Buffalos and a Bf 110. I have been waiting for these puppies for quite awhile now, and to be honest was not disappointed. The Hobby Master Buffalos looked fantastic and shoot, if they do not put out a Finnish variant, I will still be just pleased as punch with the ones I have. I noticed that they differ slightly from the Saratoga version as far as shade of yellow used on the wings, but have to do a little digging to see if there might have been such a variation. They did do a nice touch with the engine this time though, firewall behind cylinders is painted zinc chromate interior color. Yep and they came with the collector cards,,, they look like collector cards,,, ok 2-F-1 Limited Edition Certificate is 198 and the 2F-16 is 498. Now to the Bf 110,,, well,,, after some of the stuff I have seen on this I was just a little apprehensive. When I opened the box,, hmmn color looks a little more subdued than in the pictures, which is a good thing. For some reason pictures I have seen so far , looked possibly like color might have been off a bit, but up and personal it looks ok ( Might be lighting or flash, my shots look same as I have seen posted). The mottling could have been done better, but for some reason at a little over arms length it does not look to shabby (Could be a case of needing new glasses too.). The aileron balances were backwards, but Hawk said that production had already started, so have to see how next one comes out. I found that the rocket launchers go on better if you try to separate attachment points of them a little before attaching. I noticed they seem to be angled in a little too much, and that made them pop back out. The Bf 110 that I received did not have the gap in the wind screen like one I had seen posted earlier. Not necessarily the best model I have seen, but in all honesty, it does look pretty nice sitting up on the shelf.
The two Buffalos are real standout pieces though. Nice job to the folks at Hobby Master, and thanks to Hawk for passing on our opinions & observations.

The Bf 110 may just be a standoff scale,,,, if you stand way over there it does not look to bad. Mine also does not have the canopy gap.

The F2As look awesome! Thanks for posting CC. Nice to see more detail added to the engine. The prop is metal? Right?

You know I would like to say yes about the metal prop, hey how about that plug covering the most evil screw hole (Not so subtle attempt at distraction).

Glad to see that the Buffalos came out so well, CC. I'm still glad I waited for a later HM BF-110, however. Thanks for the pictures.

Hopefully they will make some improvements on the next Bf 110 paint scheme and some of the minor points like the aileron balances. This might by some be considered picky, but the rudders almost look a little bit out of scale, might have to do some measuring.

Thanks for posting Cruver. You do seem a tad fond of Buffaloes 'a la Jim' and his P-40s Despite it's possible faults I can't wait to get my mitts on the ME 110 with the second one on pre-order.

Huge fan of the Brewster Buffalo and also have the second HM ME 110 on pre-order. May not be perfect, but I really like the looks of the 110. Be nice if someone put out the ME 410 too.

Hey CC,

Your models look great! You are the Brewster King and the prewar ones look especially collectable.

SO how does the gear work? Can you walk us thru it?

Re: Two Brewster Buffalos and a Bf 110 today!

My respect for the detailing and attention to detail that Hobby Master puts into their Buffalo series just went up by more than a notch or two, Now I know that some folks my not consider this is to significant, but if you have them compare the RNZAF 488 Sqn or Netherlands East Indies Army Air Corps Buffalo propellers against the American versions. The American variants have a Cuffed Curtiss Electric propeller were the Model B 339 of the RNZAF and the Netherlands variant have an Uncuffed Hamilton Standard Propeller. I did not notice it until I was comparing the new Buffalos with the original four that Hobby Master made a separate mold to differentiate between the Buffalo F2A and the export Model B 339 type propellers. Small details like this really make for an exceptional model. Hawk if you read this thread, please pass on my compliments to the folks at Hobby Master for a job well done.
