Ahhhh, sorry guys. I was thinking this was the Spit that chased V1's. Shows how much a doofus American knows about Spitfires.

Anything for a weird life.

Wink Re: How about a 1/72 Spitfire Mk.22/24?

As I think about it, and in addition to the Century Series fighters I would like to see from HM--- How about a Spitfire Mk. 22/24 in 1/72 scale? This is the last model of Spitfire and I always thought they were beautiful airplanes, in sort of a rugged, brutal sort of way. They could also probably do a Seafire Mk. 47 (I think that was the designation for the last of the Seafires). I think a last model Spitfire would be great. Another suggestion for HM.

I think a better idea would be to make a Spitfire Mk 24 in 1/48 , that why they would only need to make a new wing & a tail , as the rest you could us from the Spitfire Mk 14

Re: How about a 1/72 Spitfire Mk.22/24?

Actually, I think the Mk.22/24 Spitfire and the Mk. 47 Seafire were postwar. I don't think any of them saw service in WW2-- Can anyone confirm this one way or another? Maybe some saw service in Korea, but again I am not sure. Still, it is a great looking airplane-- sort of rugged, brutish and beautiful. Also, it is historic, being the last of the Spitfires. I would love to see HM release one of these.

The Spitfire Mk 21 was the last one to see action in WW2 , but it had the new wing like the Spitfire Mk 22/24 would us
The Spitfire Mk22/24 have the same wing as the Mk21 , but just have bubble hoods instead

More than the wing and tail-- you would have to replace the fuselage as well as the Mk. 22/24 has the full bubble canopy and cutdown fuselage, unlike the Mk.14 which has the more traditional Spitfire canopy arrangement. There may be other differences as well, but clearly, you would have to change the fuselage, wings and tail, which is most of it.

As to why I am advocating a 1/72 Mk. 22/24, it is a purely selfish motivation-- I collect 1/72 and I have resisted the temptation to also collect 1/48. If I added another scale to my collecting, my current level of "domestic tranquility" would be seriously challenged, if you get my drift. I also think that a 1/72 Mk. 22/24 would look great beside all my earlier Spitfire models, such as my Dragon Mk. Vb's and the Gemini Mk. IX's. It would provide a nice contrast and an illustration as to how the Spitfire design progressed.

Thumbs up War record ?

The Seafire FR47 did see service in Korea.

I would take any Seafire from the MkIII, AND the Spit Mk22/24 ...

The canopy area is different between the Mk. XIV and the Mk. 22/24. I have attached a couple of drawings that shows the differences between the two. In the canopy area, I believe the Hobby Master Mk XIV is the same as the XIV drawing, rather than the Mk. 22/24. You should be able to click on the drawings to enlarge them.

Re: How about a 1/72 Spitfire Mk.22/24?

I have to admit thay you are right on this. I went to Hawkonevoodoo's site and looked at the 1/48 pictures and noticed that the first 1/48 Spitfire Mk. XIV that was released did have the full bubble canopy and cut-down fuselage. The later releases have the more typical Spitfire profile in this area.HA7101

I still have the MATCHBOX 1/32nd Spitire Mk 22/24 plastic kit and would really make my millenium if that particular variant was done by HM in 1/48th.

A very nice photo of the Eduard kit Spit in 48th!
