Well, I do own Frankin Mintz...

Hey Pappy, nice 110s!

I kind of like the Frankin Mintz up on the Rufe.

Re: Slideshow Review -- HM Bf-110 HA1801

Hawk -- do you know what HM's wash strategy was with this one? Looking hard at it it's tough to see evidence of any wash at all on the main fuselage but there's some it looks like on the stabs and belly.....??

I know there was talk of some models getting released with no wash (which I thought was abandoned?) or washes matched to the overall paint scheme (light/dark?)

Thanks in advance for any input.

My understanding is Hobby Master is going to paint two of each plane and wash one and don't wash the other. They will get objective opinions within their own departments and decide on an individual basis which planes will go retail with the wash or without. Sometime later they will re-evaluate this process and make adjustments if required. I think this is an effort to try and find middle ground that will please the majority of people. It won't please everyone and never will but hopefully this will be seen as an honest attempt to respond to their customers as best they can.

As for this particular model I can't say anything about the wash because my pre-pro didn't have any. If yours does then perhaps it was an attempt at plain old weathering where dirt and oil and exhaust fumes seem to gather in these places.

Lots to like about the model, struts could be slimmer and aircrew added but joint lines are nice and tight.
Corgi have yet to show pre-pro's and probably won't anyway, but it could as bad as the first Halifax.

Anyone who calls a diecast plane a toy must be missing some serious screws.

...unless the diecast plane has some seriously visible screws.

... and, it has been photographed close-up by a good photographer with a sharp lens (or maybe, a sharp photographer with a good lens -- whichever). Please note that when you triple the image of a 1/72 model, you see things no mortal man with mortal eyes should be exposed too!

I agree with you Celtic as this has happened to me with one of my planes that Pappy used in one of his reviews (EI P-51 "Patty Ann"). I saw flaws that I didn't know existed until put under the lens.

And this is NOT a criticism of Pappy's work as it is a compliment to how far he has come with both his skills and equipment (which is impressive!). The camera doesn't lie, but it can magnify things you would otherwise overlook.

Re: Slideshow Review -- HM Bf-110 HA1801

This is killing me! To wit (or not, depending on your POV):
  • Franklin Mintz
  • "Up on the Rufe" (OLD song)
  • Elmer plugs
  • and more!
So many puntastic opportunities exist! Alas, the dreaded stigma of "Thread Hijacker" is something I cannot, nor shall not, afford to have affixed to me.

However, there is one among us who can. Skunky!? Where are you?

Re: Slideshow Review -- HM Bf-110 HA1801

I have to agree with Hworth18 - this is a slightly disappointing release in the fact that it does look like the IXO model in some aspects. I wonder if HM 'rushed' this release to beat the Corgi model? I do hope that HM fix the faults that have been pointed out and that the 3rd release is a better model. However, I think Corgi will do a better job - especially if a complex RADAR array is required. They have proved that they can use delicate etched brass on their last Ju-88 and I don't think plastic couldn't do it justice. This isn't a HM knocking post - I love a lot of their models but I want them to be constantly improving and I don't think this Me-110 will be the best one released this year. I am really looking forward to the Corgi 'BoB' version and any subsequent night fighters they produce.

Great photo's by the way - fantastic slide-show!!
