Re: Slideshow Review -- HM Bf-110 HA1801

I don't know hworth - $40 is already pushing the limit for a model like this let alone $50 from Corgi. These prices are getting close to 1/48 scale prices.

Let patience prevail Landslide my man and you'll find you rarely pay MSRP for anything. 10-20% off can be found many places in any 6 month period.

(and sold out rarely means completely)

$50 shmifty

I'm feeling.........$38 shipped.

I'm probably one of the thriftiest members on this forum as far as paying attention to price. I'd rather pay $50 for a model I absolutely love than pay $40 for one I feel lukewarm or ambivalent about. If Corgi gives me a BoB version and I'm drawn to the scheme, I probably will take the bait. And you know how much I love Corgis!

Re: Slideshow Review -- HM Bf-110 HA1801

Pappy,

Great slide show. I especially liked seeing the SpecCast planes. I might try to get one.

As to the HM 110, I'm extremely disappointed. I've wanted a 110 for over a year now, held off on the IXO one when I heard HM was going to do one and sadly, now that it's here, this one does absolutely nothing for me. If there is no emotional spark, and there really isn't in this case, then I'm not buying. Seems to be the case IMHO with just about everything HM makes lately. I'm really getting turned - off to this company and it's products. Sad as I was one of it's biggest fans when they started out and I had such high hopes. Oh well, maybe Corgi will make a 110 that I can like.

Is your model a pre-production one? I hope so because that huge gap between the front windshield and the fuselage is totally Corgiesque. And what's with the grey spots? Shouldn't they be more "feathered" as if sprayed on like Gemini did on their Galland 109F? While I like the detailed landing gear, the weapons load, and the non-washed lines, I agree with Harry - Hobby Master could have done better.

This is a final retail version, not a pre-pro. There is a small gap between the canopy and fuselage, and it sits very loosely, but I don't think that's a huge deal -- probably easily fixed if you have a small amount of modelling skills (which I do not). Can't comment as to the grey spots as I'm not an expert on camo schemes and their application Anyone else? Lanslide? And I don't have any field guides/references for this aircraft/scheme either.

Personally, I think we're a bit harsh on HM around here compared to other makers for relatively small issues, JUST MY MOST HUMBLE OPINION, no offense intended to anyone. For example, I just put togther my CW Black Aces Tomcat and it looks nice but the gear doors were a pain to fit, the canopy doesn't latch closed without MUCH TOO MUCH fiddling, and the panel lines are pretty heavy and deep... and oh, the pallets have huge gaps. But hey, it's still a beautiful model.

Perhaps it's ignorance working in my benefit here on this model but it looks like a decent representative of a workhorse 110, at least far nicer than my IXO for only $5 or so more. I hope Corgi steps up and knocks us out with their effort, but for now, who makes a better 110?

Re: Slideshow Review -- HM Bf-110 HA1801

What are your specific issues if I may ask, Harry? -- I don't go for the night fighter version based on the pre-pro shots, but this one seems okay... The cockpit braces (right term?) might be too heavy, too, what else?

Inquiring minds want to know!

Oh.. Where to start.......

My major issues would be in the cockpit area (thick canopy frame, plain tail guns, huge mounting holes for canopy), the overly deep panel lines and the fuselage paint which just doesn't appeal to me.. And to be honest, the underside accessories just don't look right, with overly thick plastic bits (rocket tubes and mounts, fuel tanks, radiator housings), and the gun pack which doesn't look like it fits, although the landing gear does look good..

And just to add, the only thing I have against HM is that they are flooding the market much like Dragon did, which is not good for the hobby.. I like HMs planes and have quite a few of them, and IMHO, this release doesn't meet up to their typical standard.. A diecast manufacturer should be making strides forward, not taking steps backwards...

Pappy,
I agree with you. It seems that people are a bit harsh in their criticism. This looks like a pretty decent late-war Bf-110. It looks to me that HM got many of the details of a late-war bomber zerstorer correct. If you want an early war Battle of Britain Bf110, then wait for the Corgi-- I understand their version will be an early war bird. While I happily own some Corgis, I don't consider them to be superior in quality to my HM's, and I don't expect the situation to be any different with the Bf-110's.

Love the slideshow Pappy..Great Job....
As for the 110 i'll pass on this one because i want a different looking scheme.
Canopy looks to be a little off but i'm sure in time as each release is made it will be corrected.

Pappy, this model looks nicely done to me and thanks for the slide show preview however I know very little about European Theater aircraft camouflage. I know much more about Pacific Theater aircraft. Also, I have already pre-ordered this model.

Re: Slideshow Review -- HM Bf-110 HA1801

Need to see one close up to may real firm call on it, but from what I see it will make a nice addition. Just curious, do you have to put the aileron balance horns on or did they come attached? Reason I am asking is because it looks like the port wing balance horn is on backwards. Shame, but it looks like they completely backed off of the panel lines. Perfectly clean models look to toy like.
