Re: Question about HM's third Spitfire

At first the Nigerian Squadron was just a name used but eventually 20 presentation airplanes were paid for by the Nigerian Government. The pilots weren't from Nigeria, they were British, Paddy Green, Perkin, Goodwin, Roland Lee-Knight. These guys were some of the first pilots for #91.

Yes, I checked too. For example, the following squadron, No. 92, was a "East India" squadron and had a cobra in its badge to commemorate this, but the only reason for it was that it had originally been created in WWI with its first planes paid for by money donated from East India. So I assume 91 Sqn would be the same with Nigeria.

Which leaves us still with the question of what are the white stripes exactly for....

Your spot on m8
The Spitfire XIV only came with a five blade prop to

The picture is correct it's just the angle of the plane and prop that are deceiving, there will be 5 blades.

Pictures of the production model posted at link above (DAF). I have pictured this one in my mind's eye since this Spitfire was announced (not necessarily Maridor's, but a livery with full invasion stripes), must be more than a year ago now. The long wait will finally be over, hopefully in a few weeks. Of the first three, this one takes the cake.

I agree with you all the way, Elmer, on this Spitfire! Finally, I'll get my setup complete with a kit of the V-1 to be displayed next to it.

Tamiya did a 1/48th scale V-1 flying bomb a few years back.

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

Just remember folks that it was the Hawker Tempest that soundly defeated the V1 threat against the UK - all other participants such as the Spitfire and Gloucester Meteor were mere sideshow players in this particular saga ...

Well said, Cardy' 638 V.1's taken 'out' by Tempests alone.

I'm with Elmer; count me in for a 1/48th Tempest..........BIG-STYLE !!!!!!!!!
