Review of the HM MIG-21

Hi All,

This is my first post on this forum although I often post on the 'other forum'.

I have posted a full review of the HM MIG-21 on my website. It can be found at http://www.freewebs.com/ssrst. It is avaliable in either word or PDF format and is quite large as it is five pages long covered in images. To download right click on your selected version and choose 'Save Target As'. Save the file to a temporary location and as soon as the download finishes you will be able to view the review.

Many thanks!

Mark

Re: Review of the HM MIG-21

Gee, rather amateurish presentation and photography. You probably ought to work on that a bit.

Seriously, it was very well done with a fantastic layout and critique. Please join "our" forum more often and continue to share you thoughts with us. Very well done.

Everything showed up OK when I read it.
Great review SSRT. That's some quality information there. Kudos.

Mark very nice review! The layout and the photos were great....it's making me loose my patience on waiting for the Soviet MiG-21

Re: Review of the HM MIG-21

Just received mine.
For the price it's a excellent model, the paint scheme is great with effect weathered, the detail are fine.
A thing that I do not like, it is that there is much part to stick and it is not simple (like dragon).
But i'm verry happy with my mig and i hope buy another models.

The more detail we want the more parts are required. It might take 10 - 15 minutes to get all the pieces assembled but when it is done the reward makes the short time worth the effort. Also once it is together that is the end of it, it's not like we have to assemble and disassemble these once or twice a week. If this stuff is added at the factory I'd hate to think how long it would take to assemble these parts on a couple of thousand models, time means money so I don't mind the little bit of work it takes. I also find that this gives me a chance to look the model all over and get a better sense of the detail. Money or time, I have the time.
The F-104s and the Migs require some time with the F-104 needing the most, great landing gear but if you are going to display it on the stand it will only take a couple of minutes. The Stukas are almost complete out of the box.

Re: Review of the HM MIG-21

I don't have a problem in general with the fiddily bits and maybe it is just me but the struts on the landing gear were an absolute pain in the ... A lot of other models with similar style gear have them molded as all one piece which reduces the frustration level for me. I also didn't find an obvious recess to attach the strut to the gear which made it a bit more time consuming. Eventually, I just said to heck with it and went gear up. However, the gear and strut is really my only quibble and I love the model.

One thing I found especially impressive was the weathering on the underside which gives the appearance exhaust from the missiles. Very subtle, very nice.

For a first offering in the jet line it is very well done and I look forward to the others.

Re: Review of the HM MIG-21

I must admit to giving up on fitting all the fiddly bits on mine - the u/c doors are far to small for my fat fingers and i couldn't be bothered to find some tweezers for what was basically a trial fitting - my cabinets are full of 1/144 stuff at the moment so big fish is staying in it's box for now!

Nice model though. I think the double painting of the canopy to give and inside and outside paint finish was a nice touch....
