Re: 1/32 Dauntless Photo's

Cool, thanks -- another annoying question though:

Are these your pics from a model you have in hand, or are they HM shots? I had been under the impression these wouldn't be ready until next year... (early)

As far as I know nobody outside of HM in Kong Hong has one of these because they still are a month or more away from being finished. These pictures are pre-pros and still need some tweaking so please don't pas final judgment based on these. Read my lips "THESE ARE PRE-PROS". I only posted the pictures on my site after they appeared on a half dozen other places. I have 10 more shots but I'm not about to post them as these too are pre-pros. As usual I will post everything I can as soon as I can when there are pictures of the final results.

Re: 1/32 Dauntless Photo's

Does'nt this model come with crew and opening cockpits???, i'm sure the prop won't droop like that on production models.

Hobby Master 1/32 scale Air Power Series Propeller Powered HA0200 Douglas SBD-3 Wade McClusky "Battle of Midway" 1942
yes it will have a crew and the prop and anything else will be correct on the retail version. This is why Hobby Master is really starting to shy away from publicly posting pre-pros because they feel some people are making their final decisions based on a model that isn't quite as well finished as the retail version will be.

But hawk 001, doesn't HM want our input anymore? Isn't this the right time for us to offer our suggestions before it's too late like we did with the Airacobra pre-pro photos? Will we get a chance to do that on this model?

Re: 1/32 Dauntless Photo's

Well, Hawkone's site mentions "realistic looking pilot" (I hope that really means "crew") and "working dive brakes," but does not say anything about a stand. It also mentions sliding canopies and "movable rear gun" (nice!).

I'm getting this one in any event. Looks really good to me and I love 1/32!

Yes a crew.
The model has fully retractable gear so a stand would have to be included. I will verify this.

That and the antenna has a bit of a bend to it.

Again, this is a pre-pro and it will be corrected guaranteed.

Re: 1/32 Dauntless Photo's

I'll admit I might be wrong on this but I don't think the SBD-3 had the underwing antennas. I've only seen them on photos of the SBD-5.

I'd love to see some shots of the cockpit and any variations on the canopy. Head on view of the engine would also be nice.

And I agree that the prop is off as is the radio mast.

The Yagi antenna came on the 5s and 6s and has been pointed out to HM.

There is something to be said for Not Jumping the Gun with posting to early. I can understand why a company would want to have some of the rough edges smoothed out prior to releasing pictures of their product. Shoot majority of these questions would probably have been unnecessary if we had seen their official pre-production photos with their minor tweaks thrown in. I do not think it is a matter of HM not wanting customer's opinions, but just wanting to have best looking product to put before their customers.

There seems to be 2 schools of thought about pre-pros, are they really as beneficial as they seem and as we have seen here do they create more questions then they answer and create needless doubt in the marketplace? I'm a strong proponent for them because of the positives but are the positives outweighed by the negatives, this is the question and will be determined by the people at HM.

I think the whole thing boils down to what I have been saying to Hobby Master all along and they have the same feeling, "you only get one chance to make a first good inmpression". So I think they want the first public pictures to be the one that leaves you with that first good impression.
