Re: Where's the Spit!!!!

I don't think it's a matter of hysteria at all. Here's the REAL calculus:

1) Some of us know of the superiority of 1/48, at least for WW II fighters.

2) The market is more oriented towards 1/72, and there just aren't that many 1/48 releases every year, so when one comes out, we're exited about it.

3) Spitfire XIV has never been done, by anyone, in any scale, in diecast.

4) HM has shown they can deliver quality at a reasonable price

5) Good choice of livery/subject (it IS Johnnie Johnson, after all).

So tell me, what's wrong with wanting to buy this one right away, assuming you are a 1/48 collector? I'm getting it now, and will get the second one as well (since they are quite different anyway in canopy and wing styles).

Absolutely agree with you Viper, nice model, Check my post #14.

I do the same with models I want when they come out.

I don't however, buy into the >>>> "manufacturer says they are sold out" hype or hysteria call it what you want.
Check posts 28 and 32.

It's a good thing that they have all left the manufacturer, that means retailers have them and we can purchase them.

If it is an easy decision,... model you want/like, money is available, ....cool.

But if some-one is sitting on the fence, this "the sky is falling" may push them into a purchase they don't really want or can afford, just because some-one said "they are sold out".

They won't be sold out until they have all left every retailer who stocked them, and even then almost everything can be found on the aftermarket. I have found lots of older, out of stock, models with not too much difficulty.

We have all been caught up in the excitement of new releases if we are honest about it.

I have a couple of models on my shelves that I can only shake my head and wonder, "why the hell did I buy THAT".

You love it? you want it? you can afford it? buy it!

Re: Where's the Spit!!!!

OK, smartd, I get your point. And I agree when you put it that way, and I live by it. That's probably why I can honestly say I have very, very few models I regret buying, and those I do regret were not due to buying early.

But in this case, even though you are right not to be taken in by dealers yelling "the sky is falling," I see no good reason to wait to get this one (except being broke, I suppose), assuming someone is a 1/48 enthusiast. Unlike, say, the HM Buffalos where I waited quite a bit before picking some of the later liveries to buy.

Re: Where's the Spit!!!!

I agree Viper, having held the Spit and played with it for a while, it is certainly a must have for 1/48 collectors.
I was most tempted myself,.... maybe next time I am in the store I'll make up my mind and crack the 1/48 barrier.
If the Panther is of the same quality, then I'd have 2,... dammit.

Shoot, get one or two of the Buffalos while you are at it (if you break down...). While it's not your ordinary/standard subject, these are very, very fine models, particularly for the price.

Re: Where's the Spit!!!!

So they are not really sold out until the last one leaves the retailer's shelf right? And that is only in the US market.
It almost borders on hysteria, ..... It's here,...gotta buy....gotta buy....

Well this plane just hit the selves last week and Aikens is already sold out of them.

I think maybe they should look at it this way, once the retailer has sold his stock of them there is no going back for a restock because there aren't any more in the warehouse. You get one trip to the well and then the well goes dry. I think the Brewster has turned into the top seller and if not it definitely is in the top 3.
Like I said in one of my reviews for the Buffalo, there is just something about this model that holds your attention. I had it sitting on my computer desk and I couldn't help but look at it and the more I looked at it the more I liked it.

I was talking about the 1/48 Johnson Spit that was just released last week.

Well the same thing applies to the Spits, they are selling out everywhere too.
