Re: Where's the Spit!!!!

Rushing into a purchase decision based on 'hype' that they're all sold out by the distributor and you may 'miss out' is the height of folly - be patient and you're likely to be well rewarded i.e. wait until you you see the 'whites of their eyes' before pulling the purchasing trigger ...

It's no "hype". They are all sold out. 500 models came to the US. Only retailers have them now and once their gone,,, their gone.

So they are not really sold out until the last one leaves the retailer's shelf right? And that is only in the US market.
It almost borders on hysteria, ..... It's here,...gotta buy....gotta buy....

Re: Where's the Spit!!!!

Ever heard of the 'herd' mentality/effect ... (Alternatively Lemmings may be used for an appropriate analogy ). The simple fact is that even much sought after 'Limited Editions' still appear to be around some time after their initial release.

Once initial reviews start flooding in detailing minor QC issues or flaws, the 'must buy' purchase 'euphoria' dissipates like the scent of a skunk on the morning breeze .

Y-A-W-N! Ya know, I don't have that much money, I have to be careful what I buy (ie how much I spend), so I can easily do without! I have a number of Spits already.

Well...I see it as more enthusiasm than hype. There are some folks who still have enthusiasm for diecast airplane collecting and look forward to releases of new toolings. If you prefer to wait-- fine. But killing enthusiasm for the hobby serves no one's interest. I think it's great that expected demand, for the new Mk.XIV Spit, has resulted in HM's US distributor sellout out so soon. That's a healthy thing-- especially now with the slowing economy.

I sell diecast cars and planes so I wanted to come up with an easy to remember store name that related cars and planes. Cars and planes both have tires that leave skidmarks on asphalt. The slang meaning makes the store name easy to remember. Although, I do get quite a few Beavis & Butthead types who come into the store just because it's named Skidmarks. Uh huh huh huh, hmm hmm huh... nachos rule!
