Re: Where's the Spit!!!!

I agree, Cardo. You have a right to your opinion and that should be respected.

And, I see your point about the hype. I must admit, I am a bit ambivalent about JEJ and DW-D because of the issues pointed out in the cockpit and canopy areas. HM is developing a reputation for releasing models with issues, then fixing them later. Beyond this, I was in the minority of those a bit disappointed when the first pre-pro pictures came out, revealing no recessed cowling or panel fasteners.

I do not doubt JEJ is a beautiful model... the pictures on the web are flattering. But as Harry pointed out, "very few diecast live up to the hype."

There's a HUGE gap between saying a model is somewhat overhyped (which is OK for this Spitfire, I don't think so myself but I won't argue it), and saying that it's the most overhyped, least deserving model ever. That was a non-sensical statement for which I need show no respect whatsoever, particularly now after seeing the obvious commercial success of the product.

Opinions are supposed to be the result of thought, not a subsitute for it.
And oh, if any one disagrees with that last statement, then all I have to say is it's my opinion and that should immunize be against any and all criticism So there...

...saying that it's the most overhyped, least deserving model ever...

I don't recall Cardo saying that... exactly. And, I doubt Cardo would claim this is the least deserving model, ever, but I will let him speak for himself. While I don't always agree with Cardo, I have come to respect his "diecast sense."

Re: Where's the Spit!!!!

Cardo was paraphrasing Winston Churchill to be cute (and I thought he was). He also added smilies to it, perhaps indicating that he was somewhat saying it in fun. I rather agree with him. We hype all kinds of diecast on this forum. It's a lot of fun to hype them, to collect them, and to talk about them, but lets not take it all too seriously. There are LOTS of more important things in life.

Re: Where's the Spit!!!!

Ever heard of the 'herd' mentality/effect ... (Alternatively Lemmings may be used for an appropriate analogy ). The simple fact is that even much sought after 'Limited Editions' still appear to be around some time after their initial release.

Once initial reviews start flooding in detailing minor QC issues or flaws, the 'must buy' purchase 'euphoria' dissipates like the scent of a skunk on the morning breeze .

Hey! I got one and I'm no lemming! It's a great model.

Re: Where's the Spit!!!!

To paraphrase Churchill:

Never in the field of diecast collecting has there been so much hype, by so many, about so little.

Hey man - there is no doubt it's a great model. Don't miss out on it!
