Christian Lee SBD

Just saw this on Pete's Collectibles site. Sure looks like a nice one. I dig the ETO scheme.

I think this is an US Atlantic scheme, not an ETO is it?? My 1/18 Avenger is the same scheme also and is very

Oh gosh I'm re-thinking my pro-inking vote...

Bit too much ink on those panel lines, to these old eyes anyway...

Re: Christian Lee SBD

Yeah I guess that is what they called it, ASW. I was thinking Atlantic sub patrol was the main duty of most of these gull gray and insignia white ones.

Wouldn't that be ETO really? Convoy stuff would fit too right?

I'm really not sure where they drew the line with what was called ETO and not...

It's ok ARA1, you won't really notice it on it from 3' away. These high res shots don't do much for these little HM planes but they sure are nice on display.

Re: Christian Lee SBD

I love this look on SBDs and Avengers, its almost shark like. As for the SBD, I was a bit bummed about the open flaps. Now if they include a crew and make the stand so the SBD is diving then I think things would look good. Still I will be buying this one. Bring on the Atlantic Avenger.
Heck I wonder if there was a Hellcat painted in this scheme???

I don't think these would have ever been called ETO as they were not based in Europe. This aircraft was in the US Virgin Islands and you wouldn't call that Europe. Atlantic would be the name as they would have been part of the Atlantic fleet as opposed to the Pacific fleet.

Nice paint scheme though the Atlantic scheme was more associated with the Avenger. And I also would have prefered one with dive brakes closed but I won't let that prevent me from ordering it.

Re: Christian Lee SBD

I really like this Atlantic paint scheme. I wonder if HM's mold allows for interchangeable dive flap configurations - I bet it does. If so...they could provide both flaps and then we could decide for ourselves which one to use on our display (just as we do with the wheels). Don't forget to provide a new stand that allows a diving position too!

Re: Christian Lee SBD

Too bad about those open wing flaps or dive breaks. I would have jumped on this one in an instant, despite the over done panel lines, but the open flaps are a real turn off.
