Re: Suggested Panther/Cougar schemes (and presentation)

And I have just read that the F9F will come with working foldable wings..... excellent !!!
I hope I can control myself and buy just one, but it is starting to feel increasingly difficult.
Hawkonevodoo, when do you think some pictures will be available ?

Re: Suggested Panther/Cougar schemes (and presentation)

I collect mostly 1/48 WWII aircraft ( plus some modern-day 1/72 jets ). I should hence not be buying the F9F, but I am so happy with ALL the HM models I have bought ( 6 in total ) that I know for sure that once I see it I will not be able to control myself and will buy one too. In any case, I already have a Spanish AF Sabre 1/48 from FM, so they should go well together.

Excuse my ignorance, but does anybody know which countries operated these aeroplanes ? I seem to recall that in the Argentinian Navy they replaced their F4U Corsairs on board their Aircraft Carrier "25 de Mayo" and they themselves were replaced years later by the Skyhawk. But did any other country use them too ?

The only foreign air arm to use the F9F Cougar was Argentina who used the F9F Panther as well. Two F9F-8Ts trainers were acquired in 1962, and served until 1971. The Argentine Navy, after several failed attempts, managed to get the two airframes delivered by taking advantage of a bureaucracy designation mistake, but the United States refused to send spare parts during the following years. The Cougar was the first jet to break the sound barrier in Argentina.

I'm hoping the pictures will be available sometime in the next 2 weeks but I don't know for sure. They'll be on my site as soon as I can get them.

Thumbs up Re: Suggested Panther/Cougar schemes (and presentation)

Thanks, Saeta. I did, indeed miss that posting. Very nice issues, and I hope that HM picks up on the schemes. At the time I was spending Thanksgiving with my family in Palm Springs, CA and laptopless. Hence the miss. My last tme in the Netherlands was in May, 1955, Amsterdam, and a bunch of us G.I.s happened to be there for the Queen's birthday and, as I recall, the last formal celebration of the liberation of Holland from te Nazis. We had a ball.

I am glad you liked the Netherlands. Although not Dutch myself, I have been living here for nearly ten years and it is a fine place.
And, yes, we still celebrate Queen's day every year, big street party all over the country !

Re: Suggested Panther/Cougar schemes (and presentation)

Hey hawk, is there any word as if the Paper doll F9F will have the corrected paint job on it close to what the Look one does?

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Yeah - I want the fighter version if it gets corrected. Recon versions don't interest me.
