Wink Re: Poll: Inked panel lines: Yes or No??

I'm kind of the opposite. I'm more apt to get hobbymaster products without the wash. I bought the camo buffalo because the wash appeared really subtle on it. I'm guessing by the poll above that I'm not the only one. But like noted above, a lot of people don't bother voting. I kind of feel bad for the guys that like the wash because if you're not into building models, you're probably not going to attempt to apply it yourself. On the other hand, with no wash applied to the model, the guys who knows how to apply it can put it on exactly like they like it and this removes the complaint of too little or too much wash.

I'm with you on this one mate. I find that the wash on my HM models are bit too harsh. I'd prefer it more subtle or totally without. This would work for me. I may even try doing a subtle wash myself.

I think that HM is going down the right road. On the darker and camo birds the wash looks good, but on the lighter colour schemes its just to heavy and I think takes away from the appearance of the model. I like weather effects, but not to the point that, that is all you are looking at, it has to be subtle. I think the weathering job that MB did is good, very light, along with exhaust and gun barrel stains makes for a good all round package. Why the other manufactures can't do this I don't know.

Re: Poll: Inked panel lines: Yes or No??

Hi Guys,

Thank you for the opinions. Hobby Master has in fact adopted a "no wash" policy for certain types of aircrafts like the Mirage "Tiger Meet", the Captured Stuka and the exclusive T-6 for UK and Canada. Our clients specifically demand this no wash and the feedback is very good. On the other hand, I have received some bad comments for the wash directly from end users.

Hence, the treatement of the wash will be considered on a case by case basis. If you feel like the wash of a certain model, please inform Dave or directly to Hobby Master. For the HA1902 Showtime 100, you can see the effect of no wash but the panel lines are still crispy and clear and more important -- realistic. I hope you'll like it.

Re: Poll: Inked panel lines: Yes or No??

I'm definitely in favor of a wash and weathering when done effectively, subtley, and for lack of a better term "historic theater accurate". If the plane is fresh of the assembly line or being modelled after an air show bird with fresh paint (ie. Tiger Meet) than I can understand a spit and polish clean look. Otherwise I like to see the aircraft with real world use on them (dirt, grime, rust, exhaust, smoke, panel lines, etc)....Especially considering that these birds are warbirds. War just ain't clean! I do think that washing the model with more of 60-70% black for a more sub-dued panel line effect looks much better than the "Sharpie black" effect found on some earlier models. I really do like that Hobby Master is considering wash/weathering on a per model basis.

At any rate, keep up the great work!

Tally Ho!

Colin

Re: Poll: Inked panel lines: Yes or No??

I am very drawn to Hobby Master because of the wash. So YES to inked panel lines! But what if a very diluted "black ink" or stained paint thinner was used? I inked panel lines in my model building days, the result gave faded, inconsistent lines, so you don't get that "outlined" look around every single panel. It would appear darker where the lines intersected.

I like the idea of the FOV F-14, but was not too fond of how EVERY SINGLE PANEL LINE was consistently bold and too strongly defined in my honest opinion. Although Hobby Master's panel lines may appear on the bolder side, I must say the results are great as well as impressive.

I hope Hobby Master continues to utilize the wash. It truly makes their models a stand out and come out more superior than that of Corgi and the other manufacturers whose releases give the "just from the hangar" look.

Nice to see there is another fan of panel lines/ wash out there.

Jim hit it on the head. We love panel lines, but they've gotta be subtle.

Latest HM Bf 110 was nicely done. It had a light wash and even the wing tanks were given a nice wash to them.
