Re: Poll: Inked panel lines: Yes or No??

I think Dragon Warbirds Zero, P-51D, and P-47D) had washed panel lines before HM - right?

Yep, that would be right, have a Dragon P-47D and Zero they put out(Have to look real hard on the P-47 though). I should have also given some recognition to IXO, they seem to have been the first to consistently prepare their models so. As it stands now, well you really do not see a much activity out of either Dragon or IXO (Shame on both accounts), and that pretty much just leaves Hobby Master. So out of the three Hobby Master may have not really kicked this kind of detail off, but they do seem to be the only one consistently putting out new models.

Noted an interesting observation on the UK forum (Seems just like yesterday,,,, wait a minute it was just yesterday.). Seems folks across the pond are slightly more positive with regards to some form of panel lines than over on this side.

The Qinetiq Harvard KF183 was a perfect example of how these should be done. I took one look at the others and put them back on the shelf, just wouldn't give them houseroom due to the panel lines. If they were even toned down, it would make them more acceptable, but I still prefer them with any at all.

1725 views and only 111 votes. That's a shame! Does the poll really reflect our views?

Barely 10% participation! Unfortunately this is typical.

Nice to see another that appreciates the panel line detail on die cast models. I like my models to look like they have at least spent a little time outdoors. After 18 years working on the flight line I have seen very few factory fresh looking aircraft sitting on the ramp. Am I saying that there is no need for improvement in panel line detailing that is currently been done, the answer would be no there does need to be some work toning it down a bit.

Views don't reflect individual members, but that this is just a popular thread.. I am not surprised by the low vote count and I think that if you look at any poll presented on this forum, you will see the same results..

Re: Poll: Inked panel lines: Yes or No??

Hi Guys,

Hobby Master has decided to keep the washing of the undercarriage and the cockpit but will leave the panel lines unwashed after reading various opinions.

For making an overall grey scheme it is much easier to control the wash, for a camouflage scheme it is much more difficult. There is a technical problem behind this. People may wonder why we didn't make the panel lines thinner so the wash will look more subtle. In fact, the casting can be made twice thinner.

However, since this is a casting for metal injection kit, the melted metal is as hot as 400 degree celcius versus a 100 degree melted plastic for plastic injection kit. Hence, if we make the panel lines too thin, the casting will become too vulnerable to damage. Because of this, the form of wash one found in die-cast will be different from plastic kit. To control the wash for so many different types of colors that Hobby Master produced will become almost impossible.

Thank you for the understanding.
